One thing I've learned in my six years of collecting.....

Is if you miss out on a coin, another will come around. I can confidently say that about 95% of the time, when I was outbid on, forgot to bid on, missed out on etc on a coin I really wanted for my collection, eventually another came around.

When I started collecting and missed out on something, I used to get upset and let it bother me. But today, I just brush it off and say to myself, that another will come along. Maybe because Im only 31 and hopefully have many years left of collecting. In some cases the coin I missed out on ended up being offered to me in the future. Sometimes you have to pay up a little, but I dont mind overpaying for a quality coin.

What does everyone here think? What do the veterans think??

I've missed out on so many things in my years if collecting. Not necessarily coins, but its come to a point that it doesn't bother me much. Unless you're talking about a coin with a limited mintage of 5 I think another one will eventually show up again.

Yup, that's how I built a Kennedy proof collection in PF69 on a shoe-string budget. Lowball bid on 30 proof kennedy's of a certain date, eventually you win. Saved about 50% on most of the series vs. what they normally go for on ebay. Of course, this take time (years), but that's fine. I think I am going to attempt to use this same concept on Silver MS dimes soon...

In most cases you are right, but every once in a while there will be something you need to bite the bullet and jump on.

I agree that patience is a necessary virtue in any collecting endeavor, and another one will come along sometime, but it still frosts my bald head when I'm outbid at the last second. Darn snipers!

Yeap i have been saying preeching that here when bidding on a item simply put in a bid based on your estimation of value or how much you can afford, go relax and enjoy the weather :).
