I think it's a very gorgeous coin, but I don't think the fact that it's the only "BN" proof in PCGS plastic makes it a "rarity to the extreme". It just means that of the 2,845,450 proof cents minted in 1975, this is the only one that someone thought was worth putting in plastic. Again, it's a beautiful piece, and possibly one of the nicest toned proof cents from the date, but its PCGS population doesn't make it rare. Does that mean I should have my circulated 2010 Lincoln Cent graded so it will be an "extreme rarity" in grade VF?
More than being the only BN graded Proof Lincoln for the date, what makes this coin rare is the gorgeous color and toning. In the run of almost 3 million coins, I doubt there are a half dozen that could compete with this one. If they were out there you would see more in plastic. I doubt that you find so many similarly toned 1961's in plastic because people just like the year 1961. If there were more 1975's like this, believe me, they would be in the market place, either raw or in plastic. There just isn't. I don't think NGC over graded any more than PCGS under graded this coin. Ultimately, with this coin, grade is secondary.
Big post here! I have not updated my recent aquisitions in a while! If you cannot tell from the pictures: Dimes - 1946-S (BU), 1948-S (BU), 1949-D (VF), 1955-S (BU), and 1958-P (BU) Quarters - 1944, 1948-S, 1952-D, and 1955 all Fine or slightly better Halves - 1952-D, 1954 both VG. 1957 is BEAT but it was a free give-away. I would say Good at best. All numbers and words are legible.
Another set down. I started collecting these silver sets for the Presidential Dollars. So, I now have the 2010, 2011, and 2012 sets to acquire before going back and starting with 1999 Annual Silver Set and moving forward from there until I have all of them which will complete the Silver State Quarter Collection. Maybe I'll go back and start the Prestige Sets after that
Key date i believe, got it for melt from my older brother. He bought a tube of them and gave me this one for melt while i was visiting today. It has a small scratch.
I bought this raw, ungraded Lincoln Cent off eBay for $75 about 6 weeks ago. This was the sellers description: "Finest Rainbow Neon Toned Lincoln I've ever seen, I almost fell over when I found this at our local coin show." I was hoping that PCGS would grade it, but whenever copper shows this much rainbow color, getting a grade is a crapshoot. I got the results back from PCGS on Friday night -- they blessed the toning and put an MS65 BN grade on this (making this coin a huge coup)!! The PCGS TrueView photograph turned out to be a showstopper. The obverse shows an interesting and attractive woody toning pattern with some subtle coloration, but clearly the star of the show is the vibrant reverse neon rainbow color -- which is nothing short of breathtaking. Getting this level and intensity of color on a mint state Lincoln (or any copper coin for that matter) is an extreme rarity.
Just picked these up from ebay for $10. Nothing special just needed to buy something to cure my addiction lol. Not graded because of tone on all three. PCGS deemed them questionable color but I still liked them.
