What do you guys think? Kind of different having a set of 1913 tobacco cards, (normally associated with high dollar baseball cards), that cover primitive and origins of money. I am looking forward to looking them over. So what would this even be called in terms of my coin collection? I am not sure exumania(sp?) would fit. Chris
That is excellent! I would have done the same, if I had sufficient disposable income. I find myself inexplicably reminded of the notgeld that illustrates the massacre at Teutoburg Forest. I think I would classify this under numismatic literature.

I think that some of the rarest & most sought-after baseball cards were originally distributed in cigarette packages. I am not familiar with the cards you just purchased. Here is my only football card. I also have some Beatles cards and a Pete Rose rookie card. I keep them all with my coins.
Seems to me there was an episode on Pawn Stars where a guy brought some tobacco cards in to sell. Can't remember how much, if at all, Rick paid for them.

Yeah, but he was just buying for resale. How many more times in my life do I really think I will stumble across accidentally a 1913 tobacco card set of early and primitive money? Sometimes you buy stuff that just makes you smile or makes you scratch your head. That is the fun of having a hobby.
The point I was making was, you did pretty good price wise with these , being that odd yet curious item in your life. lol :thumb:
I consider anything that shows an interest in antiquity by later people (Victorians are most common) to be most interesting and worth collecting. There was a day when people were expected to know about ancient history and culture. Kids all took Latin in school. Those who had this interest were 'cultured'. Today it is perfectly acceptable in most circles to know nothing about history before Elvis. The Smithsonian Museum dumped their ancient coin collection but kept 1950's TV memorabilia. Some of us are just throwbacks to another time.
