'm not certain of that. This is one of those cases, as rare as they are, where I would recommend that this coin be PROPERLY cleaned.
I think many view acetone as a "proper" way to clean coins, if at all. However, some others use oil-soaking to clean crud off coins (like in your case) -- I'm not sure on the affect it would have value wise though...but at this point it shouldn't hurt the coin considering it's current condition Nice find by the way! Where did you buy/find it?
You could dip it properly in acetone to perhaps get some of the corrosion off and stop it from progressing but in my opinion, don't bother, the damage has already been done. I wouldn't pay anything for this flying eagle. 1858 is too easy to find in better condition, I'd take a G4 condition at $20 or so over this one with the corrosion.
i got a fishing pool the guy was selling for 20 bucks, 1870 shield nickel,1890 Indian head, and the flying eagle all for $35 dollars was that a bad deal?
Depends on the other coins conditions. Doesn't sound like a horrible deal, fishing pool? Did you perhaps mean fishing pole? If you meant fishing pole, those can go for $35 or more easily, depending on the make, model, etc.
how about this was this a good deal for 25 dollars?: 1834 large cent( the one in my other thread),1898 indian head, 1893 indian head,1891 indian head, 1859 indian head, and a 1870 shield nickel?
