Just another of Daniel Carr's Fantasy IKE's. There are several more with this particular "theme" surrounding the BiCentennial Coins. As some may or may not be aware, the IKE production years for 1975 and 1976 only had the Type 1 and Type 2 BiCentennial coins. The Moonlight Mint presents some variations such as the above Copper Nickel Overstruck coin dated 1975 which has the BiCentennial Reverse. There is a 40% Silver Piece which is the same in addition to 1975 (40% AgClad and CnClad), 1975-D (CnClad) and 1975-S (40% AgClad) dated IKEs with the Eagle Landing Reverse. Obviously coins which were never produced by the US Mint but these fantasy designs were overstruck on authentic Eisenhower Dollars.
I have found that now out of habit I have to check every UNC/BU 1972 Ike out when I find one. Like most of you I was at a new shop that I had never been to before and saw a 1972 BU in the case. I asked to see and the first thing I did was turned it to see it it were a type 2, boy I was surprised to see this. I bought it for $4.
If you look on the reverse under the bell where the surface is a little off that is the only thing that worries me about sending it in to be graded.
Unfortunately not an artifact but on the actual coin but still is nice, could not see it through the dealers flip.
NICE! I have NEVER been that lucky! How's about an obverse shot? And what would you grade that bad-boy at?
Here is the obverse. As far as grade goes I haven't looked at it hard enough but it should be in the 63 range. Think had the strike through just been a bit lower it would have taken out the islands and made it difficult to determine type, or at least take the easy way to determine away. Over all I was happy with it and it should fit a hole in my album collection. I'm not sure if it is really one that should be slabbed but for under $20 you can get it in one.
