Thank you everyone for your opinions, all in all i took a four dollar gamble so no hard feelings, I dont normally buy unslabbed ikes but im really glad i did because for four dollars i think i did alright. Heres a new pic of the obverse and maybe rodeoclown is right it has a scratch but i dont feel it would keep it from being graded.

For $4, you did alright, not like you broke the bank buying it. But nevertheless, like I said before, a scratch is a scratch and it does affect the grade. Scratches are considered damage in my opinion. If you think it would grade without a mention of the scratch, by all means, send it in to get graded.

Lol i agree with you whole heartedly about a scratch being important on a coin and i also have the benefit of having the coin in hand. I would have only sent it in if i had gotten a better response from you guys but lets face the truth not worth the gamble sending it in.

The hit on the ear will keep it from a 65. I call it a 64.

I'm going to go with MS63 on this one. I think that the dings and scratches make it at best a 64 and then those rim dings at 5 and 8 o'clock push it down to a MS63 IMHO. But, for $4 I don't think you did too bad.

Here is the coin photographed under normal light before i was using a table lamp in a dark room. I know it dosent change your opinions just wanted to give you an accurate idea of luster.

    luster is OK, still a MS63 :)

  10. I agree with what has been stated: 63 all day long, maybe a chance for 64, absolute long shot at 65. Still a nice looking coin and good deal. TC

I'm no grader so let PCGS speak!

    They call this an MS65:

Not a business strike either proof or silver uncirculated, comparing apples to oranges.

I'm not a grader either but I play one when I buy coins.
    That's not the same coin

But a scratch is a scratch, right?

So if that 76-S were a 71-D it would score higher?

Not being smart - just trying to figure out PCGS grading standards...

What are you talking about? Its a different coin by a different user? Your confusing the heck out of me. What are you trying to say?

I had thought that all coins were graded qually, based upon their merits alone. But it seems as if a coin from a mint set, such as the 76-S I posted are graded differently.

The point being that the 76-S was graded at MS65 with virtually no marks, while the 71 had more obvious blemishes so it would seem it could not be graded the same as the 76-S.

So now we know that the circulation strikes are graded differetly for some reason. How about the 73 Ike I posted - would that be hammered by PCGS as it was never released for circulation?

PS thank you Matthew. I'm sure there's logic in there somewhere.
