Would you accept a return on eBay for this?

Guy buys a toned coin (Graded ngc, properly described) with very good pictures showing off the coin's color. I do have a seven day return policy but the reason he is returning it is because he is not happy with the color (says he expected more purples)). Color is clearly described in photo, didn't do any photo enhancements, and he wants to return? He also seems to sell artificially toned coins on his eBay page. that is kind of weird but I don't now if maybe I should be making my return policy a bit more specific in order to prevent try before you buy type mentality or not, but it is a bit annoying that I am receiving a return on an item near perfectly as described. Just here to maybe get a few thoughts on the issue.thx

Doesn't matter what your return policy is. Buyer files a SNAD, seller loses.

So does your return policy state you will take it back only if you think the reason is good enough? Suck it up and re-list the coin.

If you offer a return policy, you are obligated to honor it no matter what the reason. In my experience, I find it easier to accept a return when the buyer doesn't give a reason, but that is just me. Can you provide us with the photo and description of the coin?

    Yes, I would.

As I mentioned to you ATS, put yourself in the buyer's shoes for a moment.... Would you want to buy a coin you were not satisfied with after you got it in-hand? I sure wouldn't.

    Take care....Mike

Yup, just have them return it, give them a refund, relist the coin to sell again.

And in the future, perhaps state that return shipping is paid by the buyer and refunds do not include original shipping costs, that way you're not eating a lot of shipping costs on returns.

As a buyer myself, if the shipping is reasonable to begin with (because well, I avoid over priced shipping costs anyways), I have no problems paying return shipping and or not getting a refund on the original shipping costs. That's just what one should expect when buying online because it would cost just as much or more in gas/wear if I was running back and forth to the nearby retailer if buying locally and had to return, etc.

If you had the option that returns are accepted in XX number of days then you need to hold yourself to it.

Also not like this adds value though what does "He also seems to sell artificially toned coins on his eBay page." have anything to do with returning an item?

PCGS, If you don't mind me asking what is your ebay user name? You can PM to to me if you like, I just want to make sure I don't buy anything from you in the future.

Speaking as a buyer, I'd be pretty ticked off if a seller offered a seven-day return policy, and then balked at accepting a return. In fact, I'd escalate it to eBay pretty quickly.

You all have summed it up. You can chose to accept it (returns)or not for me the worst is the buyer that slams your feedback because you stood firm on your principles or return policy. Their is no refunding the feedback

Return policies on eBay are moot. Buyer Protection wins 99.9999% of the time.

Buyer files a SNAD complaint, you have to refund the purchase price + shipping, and the buyer returns the coin.

    Case closed.

BUYER is Not HAPPY! Then the BEST thing you do issue him a REFUND as soon you get your item back in good condition. Then BLOCK him.

    From a buyer's POV:

I bought a ASE 25th "W" PF70 UC with a seven day return policy from eBay. The coin was exactly as described by the seller. However, the vertical orientation of the coin was not parallel with the NGC slab.
It was seriously out of alignment probably 2 clock-8clock. (I believe NGC should not have shipped it in that condition. When the coin was laid out with the rest of the set it spoiled the look of the set.) After explaining the problem to the seller I mailed it back at my expense and got a refund. Without a doubt I'l buy again from that seller. Had he given me a hard time I would never do business with him again.

I agree with the consensus to just return it. But yes, I would think it was kind of annoying too.

I think selling/buying toned coins is the most difficult things to do on eBay. In the end, you are running a business (even if you are a casual seller), so you would have to expect the ups/downs of that. Cheats, confused buyers, remoreseful buyers, etc are just a part of it. Be thankful you got your item back in the same condition and relist...

I just can't believe someone named PCGS was selling NGC coins ;)

I had two buyers return items. I didn't ask questions, I just accepted them. I also got a higher price on the relisting. Both buyers left positive feedback and even bought again. Good karma begets good karma.

I agree with redwin. Accept the coin, offer a reasonable amount to have him ship it back, tell him he must send it delivery confirmation, and then relist it. Block him also, so he can not buy from you in the future.

With ebay policies now, the seller has no way to "insure the integrity of the deal". That went out when ebay decided that no matter what, pretty much, they would side with the buyer. So which would you rather lose? A bit of money in getting the coin back, refunding, and going on.... or possibly losing the coin and the money if buyer is disgusted and files SNAD on this, or if the guy has paid with a credit card, and files a charge-back with the card company.

If you are an upstanding seller, you would take a return. My opinion.

Well if the buyer wants to return the coin and wasn't causing any of problems I say you should accept the return. And besides you do have a return policy, but you should also note. Regardless if you accept returns or state for whatever reasons are accepted for returns. All the buyer has to do is state not as described, most of the time ebay will side with the buyer.
