Cointalk is of course the best and most active coin forum, but I've been trying to register for the Collectors Universe/PCGS forum for a while. Is there a secret I'm supposed to know to get registered? I've registered before, see the little message on the home page saying "Welcome xxxx to the forum" but never receive my login information, and if I try to recover it says there is no account for the email I registered with. I know many here have accounts over there, am I doing something wrong that I'm not aware of? Do you need some kind of external credentials? I've emailed the forum webmaster but never get any reply. Thanks
You obviously don't know the secret password. But really, how long ago did you register? Because they have to do an approval before login informaiton is sent. What do they have to approve? Beats me. "This forum requires that all users be approved prior to using the forums. Once approved, you will be sent your login information. "
The first time I applied was a year ago, then months ago, a couple of times, and again just this week with a different email address. I thought I was in when it said "Welcome blah to the CU forums". Guess not. Maybe they don't like me. Never had any dealings with anyone there.
Does PCGS require you to have a paid e-mail address like NGC? NGC requires it to keep the bots out. Chris
Yeah Chris, you may be right. But like ctrl said, there was no mention of it during the signup process. I did use a gmail address, so we shall see.
Well, I have an Collectors Society/NGC membership and have a forum account using the gmail email address tied to that NGC account. At forum registration time it says there "If you are a Collectors Society member and have not created a Login and Password for these boards, you will need to register. " indicating that you have to have a CS account. It's not necessary that it be a non-free email address since I'm using my gmail there. Although, you can have a free CS account... not the same thing at PCGS. Hmm... Plus, it says this on the PCGS site: "If you are not currently a member of our message boards, click here to join free of charge."
For some reason, the dictator, I mean head admin over there, has to make you sweat a bit before you get the login info. Took mine a month. Never used it when I heard that a well respected numismatist was kicked from there for basically asking a question of another member.
If I try to re-register, it says someone already has that username. If I go to "forgot my login", it tells me "no user found with that email address". Arg.
I started a thread over there about possibly getting Martin Luther King Jr. on a U.S. coin. A lot of people got ****ed off.
I have an account there. The BST is fantastic. The rest of the forum (coin-related) does have many knowledgeable members, but it also has some people with overinflated ego's and senses of self-importance. Lots of condescending individuals over there.
I have an account but I mainly use it to check out the BST section. They do take a long time to register your name though.
It took me forever to pass the initiation rituals and I've been sleeping with the lights on ever since.
