Hi, recently I came across a 2005 Kansas State Quarter that was in a collection that I inherited from my grandfather. He would go to the bank every time a new quarter was scheduled to come out and get some, so they don't have any wear on them - but this certain one has what I believe to be an error on it. On the back side of the quarter where the bison is, instead of "KANSAS" on the top it only says, "NSAS". I have been informed that this is known as "Grease Filled Die" Error, but what I would like to know is, what would something like this be valued at? I understand that the "In God We Rust" Error is fairly common in quarters, but what about something like this? Thank you so much!
You look to be correct in the grease filled die guess, they are common though, and not worth much over face. BTW :welcome:
UNLESS the grease filled part covers a substantial amount of one/both sides or covers an "important" part. Yours is a beauty, BTW! BBTW: Welcome to CT!
Most I've seen on the internet says about $2-5 depending on circulated or unc. and how much of the coin is affected by the filled die. Yours would be around middle of that number. Obviously completely obscured coins and proofs like this are worth even more than the 2-5. Even ebay won't help you as even those listings hold true to the above. Highest was a cent that lincoln is just barely recogniable for $80 a connecticut quarter almost same situation sold for $7 but looked circulated.
