Excellent side by side comparison. I agree with the fake coin not looking quite right. I've seen coins like this out in the wild and have ignored them.

Detecto, in all sincerity, you can only educate people. And from that comment, I am going to educate you on how wrong you were with what you have said. Bear in mind this is coming from a high school junior.

do you know what a Superpower is? Nope. It is not what superman has. Not what Spiderman has. I am talking about a world superpower. Defined as a country that has a standing economy and nuclear weapons. Who has nuclear weapons? Well wiki says China, France, Russia, UK and the USofA have nuclear weapons. As well as India, Pakistan, and North Korea. Now what happens when we invade a country with weapons of our own? Guerrilla warfare? Here's a little glimpse of China for you.

During the Korean war, the USofA was fighting against communist North Korea. It was a stalemate at the 36th parallel for a while, but then the USofA launched an unexpected driving force causing the North Korean troops fleeing North. The USofA had chased them to the point where the North Koreans were near the Chinese border. What did China do?

China sent hundereds of thousands of troops to help the North Koreans push the USofA back south. They pushed the USofA so far back, they were going way south of the 36th parallel. It was then again an uphill battle until the USofA and the South Koreans stopped the advancements back on the 36th parallel. As of this day there are still gunshots and hostilities on the border where the "No Man's Land" resides and a man setting foot into it will almost immediately get shot.

Now what does this have to do with our miniature guerrilla warfare on the counterfeiting outfitters? Well, sending troops into China armed and dangerous looking for something that is more than likely well hidden in the streets serves as an active declaration of war. Now the USofA cannot do that because they cannot declare war without Congress declaring it. And even if we do that, who knows what China will do then if we sent force into China? Nukes perhaps? How prepared are you for a nuclear winter? Have you ever read up on what a WWIII is predicted to end up in? I suggest you do some research before jabbering this kind of malarkey. Now do remember that I am a 16 year old High School Junior and you are 19 years old. Some of my facts may not be copy and paste jobs because it was all from memory.

Now remember, the best way to do anything or avoid anything bad is education.

Either learn up or be what the Chinese (With astronomical education scores compared to ours) think of us:

Now that's some dedication, starting a nuclear holocaust just to stop counterfeiting.

I am worried like the OP as well. Wait until they get the slab right, and perfect the reproductions. Then how will 99.9% of collectors be able to tell? I truly could see this crashing the value of all coins. When there literally is no way for an average collector to ever be assured of authenticity, why will they waste their money on coins that could be worthless?

This has happened in ancient chinese coins. The counterfeits are so good, many serious collectors have simply quit buying now. If it weren't for demand from China, the prices for this material would have crashed. Even the best US dealers cannot be sure about the modern fakes anymore.

Yeap i have noted a while back that creating a fake slab and sticking a fake coin in there is lot easier than making perfect counterfeit coin that passes the feel & touch test, sound test and density test.

Maybe the grading companies should list the weight of the slab plus the coin, so we can still weigh the slab to see if it's authentic.

Just a side light here folks......that '62 fake? No way that sucker grades mint state. That should be a red flag alone. PCGS (real deal) is much better than that.......

Wow - that evidence from the Heritage site is incredible. There should be consequences for fraud like that - but they never go after credit card theft either. Darn.

I'm at a loss for words. The fact that you think coin collecting is that important right now in light of other things going on in this world that you suggest directing military resoureces to combat this problem is completely insane. (Especially when it was suggested to you on another forum that you were kicked out of, that a few years of military service would do you some good, but you said you wanted nothing to do with the military) As a 20 year recently retired Vet, your suggestion (with everything I know about you) is completely insulting.
