I would not hold my breath on that. eBay is trying to make the transaction between buyer and seller as impersonal as possible. They want to make every seller look like Walmart, and get rid of the "mom and pop" persona many small sellers have. All for earning more fees.

Sometimes Detecto's posts/threads are out there, and sometimes they aren't worth reading. But sometimes they are.
No point in name calling, I feel. Don't want to drive away a fellow collector from a great coin forum.

You fail at foreign policy, please don't ever run for public office.

And no, risking lives over counterfeit anything is not going to solve the problem.

Education is the only way and what iGradeMS70 has done is the key way to fight off counterfeits on the market. You'll never truly stop counterfeiting. It's like the drug cartels, get rid of one, another one will pop up. We've done military action against these drug cartels and have failed miserably for decades now and will continue to fail at stopping them. It's like fighting a ghost, so military action is not the answer and I want that steak dinner please!

Yea, I know. But I think that it could be a partial solution to the problem.

Not a nitwit at all, just trying to be realistic here.

If we don't stop this, it will become a problem. A very huge problem.

It could very well be so bad that it will ruin the coin market. Mark my words...

You cannot simply ask them to quit, as I'm sure this has been done before.

Maybe the TPGs will start putting micro logos on their slabs...much like Rolex does with their watches on the crystals. ( I shouldn't give the Chinese any idea's lol).

But then the Chinese Counterfeiters will "build a better mousetrap" and do this as well.

No matter HOW HARD you try to keep something from being counterfeited, they will think of a way to do it.

If this is not stopped soon...

The coin market will become a failure. High-Quality fakes will get purchased by collectors. Which will get mixed in with Dealer's stock. Dealer's probably don't take time to authenticate a slab (stop and think, how many do?).

Collectors will purchase bad coins from dealers. Have "experts" determine that they are fake...and get discouraged from buying.

If the counterfeits get so realistic, then collectors will stop buying, because they only want authentic coins.

While I am not saying It CAN or WILL, I am saying that there is a chance that fake coins will ruin coin collecting. Maybe not for veteran collectors who have collected for 40 years, and know their coins well, but for YN's and beginner collectors.

What is very startling is that most Coin Dealers, and collectors that I have talked to were completely unaware of the Chinese Counterfeiting operations.

Actually I have found that to be very untrue. Being that they are a multi national company when one of my customers did not get a coin I sold to him within two weeks within 48hours they had refunded him his purchase price right out of my PayPal account.
Happy ending on this as four days later he got the coin and repaid me. BTW I had shipped the next day and it sat in a sorting facility most of that time.

Impressive examinating, pumpkinpie!... But you missed one thing - note the space between the barcode and serial number on the front of the label (obverse side of coin). The space between the barcode and verification numbers is larger on the counterfeit, whereas there really isn't much visible space at all between them on the genuine piece. :)

Taking military action over counterfeit coins is not being realistic. Those hardcore fans who collect beanie babies could use the same argument. But don't think it's being realistic to start basically a war because it's ruining the things you collect.

    Again, educate them then.

The ebay coin has a look around the edges of the face and eagle like its machine doubled or double struck. It screams unauthentic to me.

Its more then ruining collectables. They are counterfeiting US currency to be passed off as legitimate

Anybody who would recommend military intervention over something like this is a full blown, card carrying nut.......

Still no reason for people to die over though.

Besides, how much of our debt does China hold again? Perhaps it's necessary, not like we're gonna be paying off those debts anytime soon, they have to recoup their losses. :thumb:

Quick question, does anyone know generally for Morgan counterfeits what % are made from the correct metal alloy? Not super familiar with counterfeits for this series. I mostly collect seated halves and most of the counterfeits I've seen from that series are not a silver alloy. Thanks.
