Why if the sniper didn't put in more than your max you would win , If you want an extra five seconds everytime someone outbids you , you're really bidding more than you want or you should have put in a higher bid .
Jeesh! I came back to check on my thread, and it's like WWIII in here! Why can't people agree to disagree?
It drives me nuts because I like an auction setting and I know that some sellers have people put in shill bids to drive up the price so I don't just throw out a number and hope for the best. I don't bid on inexpensive coins and sometimes I am bidding on a coin that I have not seen in a few years. You can't just go by book value on those kind of coins.
Sorry for the delay, got caught up doing other things and couldn't get to this until now. And by the way Paul, I asked you to pick 10 coins, not just 1. But so be it. Here's 5 that sold for less than your pick, and I found them in the first 2 places I looked. https://www.greatcollections.com/Coin/19089/1943-S-Jefferson-Nickel-NGC-MS-67 http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=131210&lotNo=27481 http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=131208&lotNo=22071 http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=131208&lotNo=22911 http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=131137&lotNo=26066
And here's 2 that sold for less. http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1169&lotNo=3109 http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1167&lotNo=3100
Are BP's counted into the HA's doug? I know it's not "the coin price", but in the end, it still comes out of the buyers pocket right?
To further my point, since nobody else is picking examples, here's a few I picked at random. Not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either. These ebay examples merely happened to be on the first page of the search. 1883-CC Morgan MS64 ebay - http://www.ebay.com/itm/1883-CC-Morgan-Dollar-PCGS-GREEN-LABEL-MS-64-/300696711777?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4602ebb261#ht_700wt_1162 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1883-CC-MORGAN-SILVER-DOLLAR-MS-64-PCGS-7098-Nice-Certified-Coin-/280867092395?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4164fbb7ab#ht_3310wt_928 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1883-CC-MORGAN-DOLLAR-PCGS-MS-64-CAC-/170810816122?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item27c51e367a#ht_797wt_1162 Cheaper examples of the same coin from Heritage - http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=131213&lotNo=33751 http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1169&lotNo=10616 http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=131213&lotNo=32594 http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=131210&lotNo=27892 1943-S MS65 Walkers ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/1943-S-Liberty-Walking-Half-Dollar-NGC-Graded-MS65-/220998686581?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item33748c5775#ht_500wt_948 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1943-S-LIBERTY-WALKING-HALF-DOLLAR-50C-MS-65-PCGS-/330710780982?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4cffe60c36#ht_1295wt_928 Cheaper examples of the same coin from Heritage - http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=131212&lotNo=20343 http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=131209&lotNo=24262 http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1167&lotNo=8522 The point folks is you can do this with just about any coin. Ebay is seldom the cheapest place to buy coins anymore. Yes, you can still find good deals there from time to time. But as a general rule, you can find better deals elsewhere.
As a general rule, I would agree with that for most coins. I still like Ebay due to it allowing me to find coins even 99% of ancient dealers do not have. It is quite shocking how high Ebay has become over the last 10 years though. I imagine its a function of higher and higher fees.
Doug, Heritage charges over $8 for S&H so the resultant prices are much higher than those auction listings indicate. Don't worry I fixed your links above to show the actual prices. Now you may consider Heritage & Great Collections "dealers" but I don't; they are auction houses, but that is okay. You have successfully found a few that are marginally cheaper than the one I posted on E-Bay for $64. However, since that post, I posted a current example with a BIN of $50 with free shipping. It makes no difference that it is my listing despite what that other guy says. Furthermore, that other guy set the bar at $33.50, or did you miss that? The end result is Doug that we could play this little game for a long time. The truth is that making a blanket statement that E-Bay will cost more money than other sources is foolish & incorrect. At any given point in time, it is possible to find the best deal on a given coin from any number of sources, including E-Bay. The more important point is that finding a coin for the cheapest price is a terrible way to collect coins. Typically when you buy the cheapest example of a graded coin, you are getting an overgraded piece of dreck that is lacking in eye appeal. And you are the one who always points out that "not all MS65's are equal" so it stands to reason that you should agree with this principle. Personally, I follow the mantra that great coins are not cheap, and cheap coins are not great. Look at my collection of Jefferson Nickels and know that I paid a premium to the price guide for just about every coin. Paul
The name is BUncirculated, and it wasn't up to me to set the bar for him, it was up to you, and you failed, again.
Frankly, nobody cares what your name is, or should we say your little internet handle. And for the record, I knew all about the completed listings that you posted. What's the matter, still licking your wounds from yesterday?
I'm not the one wounded. or did you forget you were outsmarted? Oh and BTW, your little MS67, fall under the gem uncirculated category,
At this point, I am convinced that you know nothing about coins. An MS67 coin is considered a premium gem. Perhaps you should heed the advice of the gentleman who told you that your making yourself look foolish.
