I have this 1990 Kennedy half dollar with a rotated d that is indented under the d in dollar. Sorry no pic right now all I have is a 5x magnifying glass but I ordered a 30x loupe that will be in soon. Does anyone have any idea what this d under d is called? The d on top is solid I'll try to post pics later

It's difficult to tell from your photo, but I think that it is a filled die break. Some of the most common die breaks occur along the edge of a device where it falls away from the surface of the die.

this looks like it has been struck thru part of a dropped letter and if it is it would be called a dropped letter coin. in case you don't know what a dropped letter is this happens when a letter or number on a coin die becomes clogged and filled in with grease , metal shavings and all kinds of debris. when this becomes loose and falls out of the coin die it sometimes lands on the planchet and get's pushed into the planchet when the die strikes the coin. then after the coin is struck this falls off the coin and leaves a impression of the letter or number. sometimes many letters and numbers and other coin details are done this way at the same time if the coin die was severly filled in.

Would that make this a premium coin or just something neat to talk about

It looks like a strikethrough of some kind. Whether it is through a dropped letter or not I can't say from that picture.

What the heck is a filled die break? I know what a filled die is, I know what a die break is, but a filled die break?

I've always considered a die break to be on the die, itself, and a filled die break to be on the coin.

I think it is a planchet flake.

Yes this makes this coin a premium coin if it really is a dropped letter coin because they are very scarce. from looking again at your photo I think this is most likely a dropped letter coin , it could have come from the obverse or reverse die , if you look closely at your coin and if this is a dropped letter the letter on the die it came from may still have a bit of a grease looking strike thru around it. this way you may be able to determine which letter on the die it came from.

in other words one of the letters on your coin may look a little different around the letter.

Still not sure I understand what a filled die break is. Are you talking about a die chip that "fills" or "clogs" a letter or number? Such as solid D mintmark?
