Going through a roll of dimes, I found a slightly smaller roosevelt dime. with a all copper color rim. Is this struck on the wrong plantchet? Attached Thumbnails
It looks like it has been "spooned" which would not only account for the slightly smaller diameter but would also account for the copper rim. Is the edge flat instead of reeded? Chris

Never mind dryer coin. Chris is right. spooned all the way. Here's a pic of the 2nd worst dryer coin I ve seen, followed by a less extreme example. Funny how I've never found a dryer coin in my own dryer.
Too often, coins like that of the OP are termed a dryer coin when, in fact, they are not. A coin bouncing around in a dryer, taking random hits, not only on the edge but on the obverse and reverse as well, will never look like it. I wish people would realize that there is a BIG difference between a dryer coin and one that has been spooned. Chris
I believe that some coins could get caught in the mechanism in some machines and get "spooned". Regardless, our consensus all seems to be telling you it is a damaged coin and not one stamped on the wrong planchet. Better luck on the next one !! A friend who has found hundreds of different farieties of cents told me they way to find stuff was to keep looking ! I tend to agree. gary
