@ Frank, I hope you know how much it pains me to agree with Doug, but in this instance, you can consider me one of the experienced collectors to which he is referring.
Boy, have you ever got that right. Attended the monthly coin club meeting this evening. Our guest speaker was the owner of a pawn shop, and also head of the Kansas State Pawn Shop Association, or some similar named trade group. You would not believe the regulations they have to deal with, most of it in just the last few years. It all started with the Patriot Act, now law enforcement is trying to make it so they don't even need a court order before demanding records from pawn shop owners about their customers. They want the ability to enter any pawn shop, ransack, and leave without any restrictions. It's like something right out of Nazi Germany, and if you resist they treat you like an enemy of the state.
I think a better question would be - how do you NOT know it ? Here's why I know it. First of all, ANACS and ICG are the only companies being affected by this change. So the change is obviously, at least to me, directed at them and only them. Second, the reason Ebay gives for the change is - To provide shoppers and sellers with greater confidence in their coins transactions, Now what do you suppose that means ? Third, ebay further says - At least 3 graders on staff who are considered numismatic experts (an individual who has been a full-time numismatist for at least five years). At least one of the graders should be a member of PNG, and all three should be members of the American Numismatic Association (ANA) Here ebay is specifically addressing the abilities of the graders who work for the company. Fourth, ebay says - Stated buyback guaranty in writing for coins later determined to be counterfeit, damaged, over- or mis-graded, or mis-attributed Now if you take all 4 of those things into consideration, it's kind of hard to not to realize that ebay has a problem with the grading of ICG and ANACS. I mean, it seems obvious to me. But if you don't see it that way, OK.
CAC has excluded ANACS and ICG since their beginning in 2007. I have never heard anyone make a peep over this...
then PCGS will gonna HAPPY on that and their will be NO COMPETITION AT ALL! NEXT TIME ALL COIN COLLECTOR WILL NEVER SUBMIT ANY COIN FOR GRADING/AUTHENTICATION. ANYWAY THEIR SERVICES IS NOW HIGWAY ROBBERY! COIN COLLECTOR SURVIVES WITHOUT COIN GRADING IN PLASTIC HOLDER.... DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY IN PLASTIC, JUST BUY THE COIN YOU LOVE!
Matt I did say it was not Fair that CAC won't tag a Anacs + Icg. about 2 years ago on a thread but were I do not recall what 1 it was. A very good old family Friend + in the hobby that knows John said to me on the same subject of CAC + the 2 services" told me he was P.O the 2 head owner" a $$ beef unsure, John worked with all 4 Tpg's at one time. John has been with one since Tpg's + grading started. +:dead-horse: eBay"I think its not fair to sellers too, they gone power crazy.they edit the fine print a by day or seller fee$ payment to them monthly that is a part of feedback # 90% don't know that add to Seller's feedback.
Apples and oranges again...CAC bids on the coins they sticker, and they don't wan't to buy anything other than PCGS or NGC. Ebay's actions are like a mall owner who sells space to a seller, then tries to tell the seller which brand names he can and cannot sell.
And the electric company isn't a monopoly either, using your logic. After all, you can always heat and light your home with natural gas. As for other electric appliances, well none of them are really necessary for survival.
Which makes them biased, completely. BTW, did you empty your eBay store recently over this whole eBay ANACS thing?
Maybe this was posted 7 pages ago (sorry, I skipped a few pages!). Paul from ANACS says the following ... To our valued customers: Many of you have contacted us about the email sent out by eBay regarding changes in their coin listing policies that specifically impact sellers of ANACS graded coins. We want to assure that you that we are absolutely confident that this issue will be addressed by the May 30 deadline that eBay has established. We would also like to take this opportunity to address some of the specific questions that have been raised, and to share with you what we are working on, which we believe will ultimately be of benefit to you. · In its email to sellers of coins, eBay mentions “certain objective standards” that are required of coin grading companies. We were not made aware of these standards until April 17th – the very same day that eBay chose to notify its sellers of the change. Now that we have been able to review these standards, it is our contention that we exceed every standard that has been set, with the exception of what we consider to be a single technicality. · Of the six standards that we have seen, we feel it is important to stress that we exceed any standards set with regard to the expertise of our graders or the quality of our service. · Of the technicality mentioned earlier: eBay is requiring grading companies to “enable online verification of unique serial numbers.” There are two things we would like to make clear: 1) ANACS does offer verification of unique serial numbers, but has not made that service available online as of yet, and 2) ANACS is, in fact, in the final stages of making serial number verification available on our web platform. ANACS appreciates that eBay is taking steps to protect the coin community from the actions of unscrupulous sellers and questionable grading practices. It has been our company’s mission to protect the integrity of our hobby for forty years! As stated earlier, we have no doubt that this issue will be addressed in such a way that you will not be affected by this policy change, and we are hopeful that we can work with eBay to do even more to protect both buyers and sellers of coins. Please feel free to email or call me with any questions you may have. Sincerely – Paul DeFelice Vice President of Customer Relations and Marketing
Anacs, ICG and PCI graded coins are good because you know they the coin encapsulated is genuine even if you don't agree with the grade of the coin. To say that Anacs, ICG and PCI are "raw" coins is not accurate. a raw coin may not be genuine. The sale of fake coins on eBay is rampent, so be sure to only buy graded coins if you are spending a considerable sum and if you do purchase a raw coin be sure that the seller offers a return policy.
yeah seriously, I wish they would put in some effort to stop the Counterfeits on Ebay. Instead they attack ANACS?
I've seen a couple world coins over the years in PCGS holders, that I felt were questionably authentic. I saw a gold Russian 3 Rouble in a PCGS MS65 holder about 8 years in a Heritage auction that I was 90% certain was fake. Also, an 1877 Guatemala gold 5 Peso that again, I was almost certain was fake, had spikes all over the rim on one side extending into the fields. I have seen so many others of that coin with the same spikes (all of them raw not surprisingly) that to see one in a holder was like something out of the Twilight Zone.
Actually, the sale of fake coins is considerably less from maybe 5 years ago. There aren't as many counterfeits sold on eBay and certainly is not a rampant problem like it once was.
