Here is the picture: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-S-Indi...12?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item46010ae4f8 is this really MS65/66 as stated? Ebay will have a new policy that any coin over $2,000 or so will have to be graded by PCGS or NGC. Will be interesting to see if this coin is still up for dale then and if so, what does it grade at.
I do not think that coin is 65/6. I would defer to experience but I have seen nicer examples that are auish. The coin looks doctored, the pictures are not so good, it might be what it is listed as being, but IMO the photos are not showing it. Maybe it is glare but the details are missing around the feathers, the hair, lots of hits on the obverse. The 09s is key enough that I would not buy one from an unknown dealer unless slabbed by a top three tpg. My suspicion is that the coin was dipped, recolored, maybe whissed on.
I see evidence of whizzing. Across the feathers in particular. Even if it was a righteous coin, I don't see it as a 65-66, More like 63-64. Too many strange looking spots. I would stay away especially at that price.
I don't like the lustre. It may be just me but it's just too, too even. Too perfect. It looks like it may have been expertly dipped. Just my opinion.
That goes into effect I think in May and likely any auctions posted before the new policy are likely allowed to live out their last auction listing until it's sold or ends, then they likely can't list the item per the new rules.
I agree 63/64 - and if I was going to spend that kind of money I would want it in a holder or to see it in person. Personally with that picture I only see glare and not luster.
It's difficult to judge the quality of a coins surface (luster) based on pictures. Especially with copper coins photographed under intense angled lighting conditions. Photographed under those conditions a penny can look like a red blazer, however, look more like a brown dingy turd in hand.
I think the photo has been juiced, the Longacre "doubling" effect is barely discernable through the glare. If it was mine it would be in a PCGS slab and have an "Eagle eye" on it. BUT for those who have a hard time seeing the "L" on the indian cent, this one has a prominent L ( to the left of the the bottom feather . So take a look at it , so you know where to look. Jim
The guy is making ridiculous grade claims in his descriptions... so what's new? Happens all the time. If you need proof of his selling whizzed coins, this little "MS65" beaut should suffice. (Item# 300697226592)
