ive searched 13 boxes of halves 1 box of quarters and only have found 2 silver ever.

You seem pretty lucky imo.

 

6 cwr of halves... someones dumps... nothing. 18 cwr of dimes... two Canadian and about 2 bucks short. Lame.

 

Yeah that's a UK 20p. Nothing special.

$500 box of dimes: Nothing. No silver, no foreign, didn't see any proofs -- even the count was exactly right!

But today wasn't a total loss. When dumping the dimes I searched yesterday one of the tellers asked me why I had all the coins. I said I collect them. She said "Check these out" and pulled out two silver quarters and a silver dime. I offered to buy them off her for a couple dollars each. She said she isn't allowed, but "You can have them if you want them, I want someone to have them that will appreciate them." I sure will!

Also found 51 cents (no silver) in the Coinstar reject tray. Guess I used up all my luck before I got to those dimes! Hope I have some more for tomorrow: A friend and I are splitting a $1000 bag of halves off a coin counter. I also have an order of two boxes of halves coming in. I'm picking one of those up if it arrives early enough to search and dump in time to get to the coin counter bank before they close.

 

You're lucky you have a local friend to share in the hunt. I haven't been able to find anyone yet nearby. Good luck, HH!

Box 2 = skunk

Skunk bank:
Box 3 = skunk
Box 4 = skunk

Not a total loss but definately disapointing. Going to try my hand at dimes today and see if I can run through four boxes.

I've done 13 BWR Dime Boxes this year and I have yet to score over two dimes in a box. I've done alot of CWR which are feast or famine. I was expecting something from this dime box last night but was somewhat let down. I did find one silver dime but it was so beat that I can even make out the date. Really the only way to tell it's silver is from the sound.

I'm aware there is another searcher in my state that searches HUGE MONSTER volume of half dollars that he obtains from a neighboring state. He does search dime boxes from my state in the order of 8 at a time. He was sent a letter from the US Treasury which I'm sure had something to do with his CRH habits. Maybe he had to cool down on the halves and is doing more dimes which is the reason I'm averaging about 1 per box of $250.

Box of halves - 1 '69

 

While I wont knock the Honda mentality (they are very reliable), my USA made Cadillac has been running strong for 13 years!

 

I talked to my friend, who is a so-called "street mechanic" (Think nomadic mechanic who rents a shop space only when he needs one... he makes great money) and he said he might be able to get everything taken care of, including inspection, for $700ish max. So... maybe not so bad after all, but there goes the bonus I was gonna buy a new laptop with.

2 boxes of halves. 1st skunk (again). 2nd had 5/40% and a 1992 S proof (no pictures, they were nasty looking). I also forgot that in the previous boxes I found a 1987D. Off to go find some dimes.

I got a guy like that. He's like a mechanic on retainer. He always comes to the rescue and works for cheap.

Got another box of dimes on lunch break. The head teller asked "just one", I chuckled a bit and said "yup, just one". She then brought me my box and asked if I ever found any Mercury dimes. I told her actually the box you sold me last week had one. She was amazed and told me about her small collection of Mercury dimes. She did mention that in everyday business transactions she has processed at the bank she's never seen a Mercury dime. The thing is at this point is I've probably handled alot more coin than she has in her 20 some odd years as a teller.

Any way, the box produced yet another single 1946 Roosie. I'm happy it's not a skunk but I'm just really hoping for a decent score this month. Something other that just a single coin....Come on Now!

I'm back...... My last post was pulled because of my profanity towards loomis. I havent searched nickels and since ive been obliterated in halves and dimes i figured id try some nickels. I got 1 box and 50 customer wrapped rolls (which im sure was someones dump seeing as how thats equal to one box. In the box i found a 45p, in the customer wrapped........22 war nickels mixd dates and a 39s!!!!! apparently no one will believe me since i have no pic but believe what you want. I'll be sticking with nickels foe a while. and ill never doubt the customer wrapped rolls again

I was shocked. Everytime i decide to stop hunting something like this happens and remotivates me. I jumped the gun though, it was only 19 war nickels. 3 of them were 1942 non war nickels. Still easily my best score in 1 day from rolls by a long shot. Does anyone know which banks are serviced by garda? My wife works at albertsons and they get their coin from garda, the night manager is always pulling dimes for me, i wanna try searching garda boxes but she cant order me a box unless she wants to lose her job. I wanna continue searching dimes and halves but its not worth the effort from loomis.
