I have a 2010S silver half dollar graded by NGC at PF70 Ultra Cameo. I know that there are may of these, but how may are labeled "Early Releases"? There are none listed in their census report. I can't get a photo up until tomorrow, but the coin can be seen here: http://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/CertResults.aspx?CertNumber=2577514-070 Thanks.
I don't believe that NGC separates the "Early Releases" from the others since it is not an attribute of the coin, so all of the ER's are part of the 2162 total that have been graded PF70UC. Chris
They separate them out on a separate line for other years if you click on the arrow to the right of the date, but not 2010. Perhaps it is something they just started doing in 2011, but in any event, the "Early Releases" is just a gimmick that came up after some of the tv coin shows pressed for it to hawk their products. Originally, NGC used "First Strikes" just like PCGS, but a suit was filed in Florida against the use of the term because there is no way to prove if a coin was the first struck or the one millionth struck. The court found in favor of the plaintiff, so NGC was forced to discontinue using "First Strikes". The ruling didn't affect PCGS because it is a California corporation. No offense intended, but the use of the term "Early Releases" is just as misleading as "First Strikes", and anyone who pays a premium for a coin graded as such or who pays the additional fee to include it on the insert when submitting one for grading is just wasting money. Chris
I know that, Chris. It's been said here many times. The fact is that there are people that will pay for that label, and want to pay for that label. So if I have the only one in existence...
I seriously doubt that you have the only one. Look at the number of ER's for 2011 in PF70UC.....1593. Like I said, they probably didn't start separatiing them until recently. You might take a look at some of the Registry Sets to see if there are other 2010's listed. They may not have photos, but you can always check the cert #'s to see if they are ER's. Better yet, post your question on the "Ask NGC" forum over there. Chris
Thanks for the tip, Chris. I finally found "Ask NGC". It's a great resource, very informative and I'll be flooding it with questions.
I now have confirmation from NGC. They did not give ER labels to Half Dollars before 2011. Mine was given the label in error. I have the only 2010 S Silver half dollar with the ER label. I know that to everyone here it carries no premium, but I like the idea of having something that is one of a kind.
No no, now what you do is with your confirmation and evidence, sell it on eBay and make millions, perhaps you can start at 10 million but do not settle for 7.5 million if it's offered.. no way, stand your ground on it's true value. :thumb:
