Think this Mercury Dime makes ms65?

Sorry, its been awhile since I've posted. Ive been extremely busy. I picked up this dime at a local coin show last Saturday and it was slabbed by ICG. I asked the dealer how hard it would be to cross over and he said "It easily meets NGC and PCGS's standard of MS65" It only has 1 noticeable small bag mark on the cheek under 10X and a few very small hairlines on the torch bands. He suggested that I crack it out before I send it to NGC and not send it in the ICG slab. Here are the best pics I could take. I think it meets the FSB requirements as well. What do yall think? Would NGC have a problem giving this one an MS65 FSB?

I think MS65 FB is completely possible, if not higher.

 

It's tough to gauge with all the glare. I take it was photographed through a 2x2? If I had to put a conservative grade on it, probably 64. The middle bands look good enough that it would get tagged with full splits.

 

Looks like it could make 65 FSB. Your dealer was correct in telling you to get it out of the ICG holder before sending it in. Neither NGC or PCGS would ever admit that ICG got one correct.

 

Much better photos, I don't see why you can't get a 65 FSB's on that one. Even from PCGS or NGC. And no distracting nicks on the devices or fields.

 

Thanks for the replies. I searched ha.com auctions and looked at the mercury dimes graded MS65 and MS64. Most of the time I think this would easily make MS65, but there were some NGC graded MS64's that had me a bit concerned.

EDIT on pic #1 you can see the slight bag mark on the cheek.

 

I don't think you have anything to worry about, it's hardly noticeable. And besides, I've seen MS66 graded coins have small marks on them. I have a few lincolns myself with tiny nicks and marks.

 

On dimes, it's mostly about luster, and I honestly can't tell jack from those photo's.

At any rate, a 65FB '45-S isn't really worth getting slabbed with a value under $100...

I think it would make MS65 FB but I would like to see a photo of the entire coin both obverse & reverse to judge rather than sections of the coin.

I talked him down to $460. It was in an ICG slab as MS65 FSB. These pics were taken after I cracked them out and put them in a 2X2. Leigh, Ill try to get better pics tomorrow. It has great luster and a really nice cartwheel effect. The only marks I can see are a slight bag mark ( visible in pic 1) and a very slight mark on the neck that looks like 2 pin pricks. The reverse is one of the best I've ever seen with a few faint hairlines on the very top of the bands. The diagonal bands have no marks that I can see which is very common in this series.

 

Here is my attempt at better pics. I took my 10X loupe and put it over my iPhones camera eye. Also used a fluorescent light. I dont know why the iPhone rotates these pics 90 degrees.

What's going on to the left of IGWT?

I'd say, based on the pics, it's a 64 at best.

 

Try the same technique only use a digital camera, like an easyshare or something, and zoom in a bit.
