Hi Everyone! I really like the idea of a contest thread. It goes together well with one of my other hobbies: Random Acts of Kindness/Guerrilla Kindness. So, I figured I'd mix in another one of my hobbies and have a photo contest. Here are the rules: 1. Each user can submit no more than one photo. 2. The photo must be taken outdoors. (Landscape, cityscape, wildlife, wildflowers, etc) 3. The photo does not have to be taken specifically for this contest, but it must have been taken by the submitter. 4. The contest ends one week from today, at 5 PM Mountain time on April 24th. 5. The winner will be announced by 5 PM on April 25th. 6. The prize is one 2004 Silver Proof Half Dollar:
Iceland (Taken in August 2005) ... A huge waterfall that you could walk behind. If you look carefully you can see the (tiny) people on the walking path.
pic A pic from the final trip to the family cabin. Taken last year, by me. I will miss going there...
I love photography, so this was a hard one for me. I took this photo in August of 2011. It was taken during my Honeymoon in Nassau, Bahamas the evening after Hurricane Irene rolled over us. The sunset that night was absolutely breathtaking. This color in this photo was not enhanced in anyway.
This is was very hard for me to choose, but here's my final choice. I don't know why it's showing up small, but if you hover your cursor over it, it will enlarge. Hope ya'll enjoy WingedLiberty, that waterfall looks amazing. CamaroDMD, beautiful sunset.
These are the other three I was torn between, I just had to share them. Well, make that two. One of them the file size is too large, but it was very similar to the photo I submitted for the contest but it was taken in late fall so everything was frosted over, and there were some low clouds in the distance that looked neat.
I noticed that too. I was about to say you should submit a larger photo, but when I closed the viewer window, my other browser window was showing a full size version.
I tried to put a lot of thought into this. I know everyone will be submitting pictures of mountains and sunsets(and I almost choice one myself), but I thought I would take a different approach. I hope this still qualifies and people still appreciate the beauty. This was taken in a cave in Southern Missouri while spelunking with my brother. I find it breathtaking because until the camera flashes its beauty is completely hidden. Once the camera flashed this is what we saw:
I also like this picture because for a second it is hard to tell where the structures end and the water begins.
This was taken years ago in Santa Cruz while I was at a photo workshop. Its a crazy looking flower with a lot of color. This is a low res version i think
Undisclosed rock hunting landscape outside of Badlands National Park in South Dakota. Pure solitude and serenity.........
Here's a picture I snapped a few weekends ago. It was the view I awoke to when camping. Click on it to get the larger picture of course. Scaling down took some of the quality out but I didn't want to upload a 10MB file to CT.
After next week, I'll post some pics of what comes out of the area. Rock collecting has many similarities to coin collecting but few live in an area where you can actually hunt for them. Like coins the joy is greater in discovering them than owning of them.
