True auction....meaning it doesn't go under the heading of 'coins and paper money'?

I agree, this smacks of restraint of trade. I suppose Ebay can do what it likes with its trading platform but absent any objective evidence that ANACS standards are measurably deficient this seems grossly unfair. They're lumping ANACS in with Chico's Grading Service and it's ridiculous. (No offense to Chico)

But all TPG ( or any for that matter) grading standards are subjective, and objective evidence can not be derived from subjective comparisons ( evidence). The lower prices realized in auction by ANACs compared to NGC and PCGS for similar graded /same coin should be indicative enough.

I would think one could have a photo with the ANACs slab and be within the regs as long as not in the description, as that was permissible with the other lower level TPG.

No, I think Lindedad means there is no reserve...the highest bidder is guaranteed to win.

"Raw U.S. coins" can still be listed with a BIN, reserve or starting price as long as it's under $2500.

Bummer about ANACS. I am certain ebay considered the risks. eBay is a big gorilla to tangle with.

Yes, I am certain that photos of non-PCGS/NGC slabs with grades displayed will be fine. Encouraged, even. Obviously they will not turn up in searches.

FWIW, as best I can figure, I am just about the only one out there reporting, with only a few exceptions, either grades in the title or off brand TPG's. I assure you I will not be reporting ANACS or ICG slabs.

Yeah. If you have a raw coin worth more, you can start the auction lower than $2500 and plan on bidders bidding it up.

See, I just read this email...and at first I took it to mean that if I have a raw coin listed as a BIN, even though it's less than $2500, it must be graded:

"Second, for US Coins only, grading by companies meeting these standards will now be required for all coins listed with a Buy It Now, reserve, or start price of $2,500 and above."

It's the OR that gets me here. Anyone have the number to eBay that I can call and get clarification?

Other way around the TV outfit sells it's subsidiary called ANACS graded coins. Added that this is in my opinion what has cost ANACS it's place at the table as it is no longer a independent grading company but a division of a major retailer of coins.

Just another nail in the coffins of ANACS and ICG IMHO. It has been common knowledge in the community that these companies "ain't what they used to be".

Official word from Andy at eBay:

You can still list raw coins with a BIN price, they just have to be under $2,500 and you can't claim them as certified unless they're PCGS or NGC.

Big sigh of relief...as all the coins I list on eBay are raw. If they took away the BIN/BO option...I'd just stop listing anything with any value over $20.

The last I saw, redwin's coin didn't have a numeric grade so nothing will change.

Yeah, that's the loophole they left open. So it isn't totally earth shattering for ANACs coins under $2500. Maybe a little tougher to search through them. You'll have to search by price to find the grade you want.

These policies should help cut back on the non-sense and over exaggerations.

I'm happy about this.. too many times I see a higher grade key or semi-key, and it may not look just right or have an old cleaning, and the buyer gets burned.

Guess I'll be on the prowl for some cheaper priced ANACS..

Do you think that this might drive up the demand of ANACS holstered coinage?

What buy it on TV and sell it on eBay for melt????

Well actually I was thinking everyone would crack and resubmit to NGC and PCGS. The ones that remained in ANACS would be a part of numismatic history.
