I found this forum with the coinstar finds ( I have found 3 silver dimes in the past month in the reject tray 1949 is the oldest)

Now, the good part. I saw all the references to coin roll hunting. I am curious. all my old timer friends say it is a waste of time. I Saw some or your reports, and it sounds fun. so I set off in my bicycle to the nearest banks. let me share the findings. I am mainly hunting half dollars.

    bank #1 - Chase - I got 5 rolls all they had + 10 rolls of dimes.

bank #2 - Key bank - 3 more rolls - plus a silver dime they just sold me to be nice ( wow! )

bank #3 - US bank, or BOA - I forget - picked up 5 rolls.

So I am 180 dollars into this, and a nice little bike ride.

Go to my neighbors house, the old timer, and while we chat and have coffee, I break into the bank #1 rolls. First roll , there is a 40%er. wow! free silver, I was very happy. The rest of the rolls are empty. The dimes show nothing either. I decide I do not like dimes.

    Alright, bank #2 - First roll - nothing. Second role - 2 90%ers! - wow! 3rd roll - another 90%er. What luck!!

    Bank #3 held 3 40%ers.

My totals for day #1 were 7 friggin Coins! 3 of the 90 percenters. almost 2 ozes of silver. Thank you for showing me the way.

So the next 2 days, I Went far and wide, and spent about 300 on coins. Zilch. So it goes. I'll be smart about where I buy - smaller neighborhoods. I'm going to dump coins at my credit union where they have a free coin sorter. <-- does this sound like a decent idea?

also, is this illegal? Seems too good to be true. Thanks.

I don't normally get excited over pennies but in one of the BWRs I got today there were 12 wheat cents... And the next roll had a dinged up 2000 WAM. Too bad my silver luck isn't that good!

Haven't posted here in a while, but had some funds to do some searching. Over the past four days, I have searched three boxes of pennies, and came out with:

    * 1 two-cent euro
    * roughly 2-3 rolls of Canadian cents
    And a full roll of wheat cents:D, which included a 1913, a 1916, a 1917, and a 1925.

Also, I found a 1983-D penny which is missing its copper plating. I still have to get pics.

Another decent week, just about 2 ounces. I may not have a lot of big scores but I am happy with my slow trickle of silver over completely skunking out, lol. And as an added bonus, I did find a few more Roosies I needed for the folder I just ordered last week!

I always seem to get a mess of foreign. Does anyone else? This week: $1.06 CD, 20c Bermuda, 10hw Korea, 10c Dominican Republic, 5p UK, 1/2fr Switzerland, 50gr Poland, 100p Mexico

Oh and I did find a neat looking pocket/dryer half, I'll post a pic of it later.

Well I finally have something to report!

Went to the supermarket last night and picked up some supplies for dinner. The wife asked me to get a couple bucks in quarters for laundry money. I ask the cashier for $3 in quarters and he hands them over. As I am walking out of the store I check the edges and see 0 silver. Bummer.

I get to the apartment complex laundry room and I am sticking quarters in the machines, checking them as I do. I pretty only check for Wisconsin state quarters, just in case I am lucky enough to find an extra-leaf variety. I notice a Bicentennial quarter, so I look at the edge and it is clad, but check the MM and it is an S. I move the coin about and notice some light cameo! A proof! Wooo!

Since I am such a Washington junkie, I have to keep this coin. It is not very worn, but it is kind of gunky and has a film. I know I shouldn't but, I was going to dunk it in my wife's jewelry cleaner. Merc has suggested acetone. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that nail polish remover? If so I am sure my wife has some around here...

This is my only Bicentennial proof so far (although I do own a 40% silver Bicentennial Half and Quarter in the non-proof variety), and only the second proof I have pulled from circulation. Well...yeah, second.

I know, a long post for an underwhelming coin, but I was so stoked to find it! I felt like Indiana Jones! Sadly, my wife will not allow me to own a whip =(

HOTN: the 1976 S half is in both uncirculated and proof and both are 40%ers. So, you may have found a proof and you may not have.

Yesterday, I picked up 2 boxes of halves....both skunk. The thing is, I had no expectation of finding any. :( It wasn't even fun. I need to find some silver. I need to find some silver. I need to find some silver (I hope that works again).

You need to go to a hardware store and get some pure acetone. It will come in a metal can, costs like $10. Nail polish remover isn't really pure acetone, it would dissolve the plastic bottle if it was. I'd soak in acetone (Remember to cover it so the acetone doesn't evaporate!) for 3-6 hours, and if that doesn't clear it up, try a day... if that still doesn't work, shoot me a text and I'll explain how to do a dip to attempt to restore a proof.

Dumped $500 in dimes today, one of the tellers I'm friendly with came over and pulled out the machine, I cleaned the reject tube, looked in the bag, and there's a WLH just sitting there. Ask him if I can swap a half for it, and he, to my surprise, says "Sure!" Cue me running out to my car to find a half under the seat (I always have a few ha) and go back in, toss it in the bag, and walk out with a '45-D WLH for 50 cents. :D

They also had two ikes, nothing special. :)

Merc you are so lucky! My most recent situation like that involved a silver roosie, but I was told NO! Thanks for the reccomendation on going to the hardware store. Do you think Home Depot or Lowes would have something? Would I have check out more a traditional hardware store? Like a locally owned place?

You should be able to find acetone anywhere that sells paint.

went through some quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies yesterday. Nothing in the few hundred in quarters. $260 CWR dimes produced an 82S proof, nickels were strange...8 buffs and four more counterfeit buffs from what I can tell(14,14s,26d,29s), the real ones were 4x37,35,24,2x no date. $15 CWR pennies produced about 7 wheats, best being a 34d that filled up another hole for me.
