Found a bunch of wheats while roll searching that all have this weird toning that i have personally never seen. I was just wondering if this is natural or artificial??? It is actually very attractive under a light...
It just caught me off guard as im ripping through rolls to see these. It definitely doesn't look chemical in hand but **** im no expert either... Ill post another example..
Not toning at all. Environmental damage or like snapshot said, chemical. Possibly someone spilled Coke on it.
Your name is Toned coins and you don't know? Just giving a playfully hard time NT: Natural toning AT: Artificial Toning For the OP, probably a center console piece with the coke spilled and gunk all over and washed off. My guess. Not toning but as the others have said. Damaged.
The 44 looks like environmental damage, the 55 could be naturally occuring. In cents, the toning that many think is neat is the kind that makes it look like wood. Its more common with teen and 20's dated cents it seems. Toning on cents is not as popular as silver coins, but "woody"s can increase the value somewhat from what I have seen. Ask tonedcoins or Lehigh for a better explanation.
you guys say plain old damage on the 44. While I agree it is most likely just something spilled on it, I do NOT agree its just some piece of junk. I think the 44 looks cool as ****. It is a work of art on a penny. Eye appeal means a lot to me and this coin has it!
Well, if you wish to classify this as "toning", then I suppose I'd be inclined to say AT... But I think a more suitable term for what you have here is "environmental damage". -Brian
