I'm closing in on filling my Nickel Jefferson series Whitman folder up with the finds I"ve gotten in the past year from CRHing. Currently I'm only doing a Whitman 1938-1961. I don't think I will extend the Nickels at all with roll search finds (post-1961 mints). However I guess I could try Buffs, but I don't find many of those, even though they are one of my favorite coins. Plus the ones I have found are dateless, and I'm sure some of the key dates would be impossible to find in circulation. My question though is, what folders do most of you CRHers do? I also have Lincoln Cents I'm doing from 1909-early 1970s? These are Whitman. I haven't really done much Cent searching lately, and most of the pre-1940 Wheats I still have to find. Anybody here do Dimes, Quarters, Halves, Ike folders with finds strictly from roll searching? I think as soon as my Nickel folder is up, I'll dive into some of these. I should probably do halves, since I go thru so many of them, it wouldn't hurt to have a nice collection of circulation found halves that are in good shape. Also besides coins are there 'folders' out there for paper dollars? I"m sure there are. Sounds kind of crazy but I'm kind of tempted to start with ones or even fives. But I"m pretty much a precious metals and coins guy so maybe I shouldn't venture to far off the prairie so to speak.
Lincs go into 2x2's that go into albums. Jeffersons that would grade AU or better go into my dansco, which is about 2/3rds complete at this point. The rest are bagged, save for semi-keys and wars, obviously. I don't piece together sets of the other stuff.
I've put together a Kennedy half dansco. I only put BU, maybe some high AU halves in it (for the clad ones, anyway). Not too tough with halves.
Yeah I'm thinking I might just break down and do a Kennedy folder, won't be too hard to pull off. Also I just pulled a 1987-P tonight, so now I have both the P&D again.
Most of my collection has been put together from circulation finds except a few coins which my Dad bought me when I was a kid. They all used to be in Whitmans, but when I discovered the Dansco albums thats the direction I went. I just like being able to see both sides of the coin and I feel like the Danscos are better overall quality.
Almost done with my dansco for Nickels... (They look so nice in there!) and just bought one for halves 1964-today with proofs (since I've found a lot of proofs in circulation)
I got my Kennedy dansco early on, before roll searching, and got the non-proof one. I really regret that, and I wish I would have gotten the proof one. I'd suggest that if you're buying a dansco, buy the proof version. There's a number of albums I've bought before I started accumulating proofs for the series. Wish I got the proof ones.
If you are looking for the whitman Kennedy folders let me know. I have a spare set I am looking to sell. I have part of the circulated set that goes in the folders too if you are interested.
when I was a kid I started out with Whitman deluxe albums. They made 2 sided in those days. In recent years I bought 3 of the Intercept albums, but not real happy with them. The hole cuts are not always exactly right and I don't really like "made in china" so I've gone all Dansco since. For collection that are not according to the Dansco order of things, I use 2" Mylar flips and Mylar pages (20 per page) I put a whole page sheet holder behind it and type out what I want to say, dates mint marks and other info, all on the computer then print it out. All these held in a binder NOT made out of vinyl. I've done a 20th century type set that way, did my own thing with Ike's, and keep just coins I find interesting for one reason or another in these binders.
I've got a couple Lincoln Whitman folders with no dates for the unusual stuff, like RPM's, laminations, CUD's and what not. And the same for the nickels, I currently have a folder with one flap full of 51 and 54 s/d OMM's. Good times
