And then there were 8! Pulled a 39-D Jefferson tonight!

Got my album (Littleton, goes to 1975)... only problem is between work and actual CRH, I haven't had the time to really fill it. I did take the time to start with the 3 tubes where I sequestered my BU-ish coins that I've found while hunting, mostly filled the 70s although I was surprised to find 3 really nice 1939s (by that I mean just 1939, not 1939S lol).

Like I said I have like 10-15 rolls of stuff from 1938 to 1959 that I've never sorted through, I'll probably get to them sunday (because banks will probably be closed, lol). I'm having a ton of fun, it's a blast to rediscover coins you've just had sitting there.

A few months ago, I actually found a '38 S in change. Also found the '50 D in a roll search. Besides those, I still need the same ones you do. Getting harder and harder to find even the 40's and 50's Jeffersons, though.

With the '39-D out of the way, all I'll need is the '50-D. I may just buy one.

Okay tomorrow is fine, thanks Merc, and also a big thanks on the 38-S too! That's awesome man, please let me know if I can help you out in the future on anything. I know it's a tall order for the coin roll king who has almost 1 of everything by now, LOL.

    Cheers,

    Chester

Sounds like a plan Melina. I"ll send you a PM of my address, and I'll need yours of course, as well. I won't be able to mail out until this coming Tuesday as I'm off the whole weekend b/c of the holiday and won't be around a computer much, or even close to a mailbox.

Oh and the coin I have is a 43-S for you.

    Thanks buddy!

That's cool Atriedes, I'm sure there are plenty of nice fillers in those rolls for you once you are able to get to them. Also make sure you have a loop or magnifying glass handy when you do, or you might just overlook some lower mints that you thought were higher mints.

Wow Ruben those are some nice finds. I hear that the 50-D is the hardest to find, not just because it is the lowest mint because at the time I guess the public was well aware of the very low mint and hoarded them. I could be wrong, but I think I heard that somewhere in these parts.

Absolutely correct. The '50-D has actually fallen in value against inflation ever since 1960 or so. :) The byproduct of mass hoarding. Of course, that makes them relatively affordable in gem condition compared to some of the other tougher dates.

    Update on my album:

I've gone through all my BUish 60s and 70s stuff, and managed to fill my album with at least a XF/AU version of every nickel from 1960 to 1975, and then I sorted through my 1950-1959 rolls and managed to fill nearly all those holes as well. Here's all I'm missing from 1950-1975:
    1950-D (as expected)
    1965
    1968-1975 Proofs

Still have 1938-1949 to go through tomorrow, I'm expecting to be missing 1938D & S and 1939 D & S at the very least. I'm taking pictures of the whole process so I'll be sure to post them all when I'm done.

What are you still missing. I'm fairly certain I have a set of wars that I can pull from to help you out. Send me a PM.

Alrighty, finished sorting my coins and filling my album. Here's some pics:

Thankfully, about 3 months worth of saving my pre-60 nickels and BUish 61-75s mean I was most of the way there, and I was able to fill in most of what I was missing in 2 boxes of nickels this week. In fact, when I posted in this thread previously I was missing a 1965 and then found a decent one in the coins on saturday. I decided to display my war nickels in the album for the time being as well:

So like I said I was most of the way there, here's what I'm missing:
    1938-D & 1938-S
    1939-D & 1939-S
    1943-D
    1944-S
    1950-D
    and 1968-1975 S Proofs

Filling this album was a ton of fun. I'm pretty surprised that now I'm only missing the key dates and 2 war nickels, I was expecting to be missing quite a few random lower mintage dates. I guess I'll keep plugging away with CRHing and looking for the ones I'm missing, I have a good feeling I'll come across the war nickels soon. What do you guys think, is it worth buying the proof nickels just to fill the album?

I'm definitely leaning towards doing another album now. I'm thinking either a NIFC Kennedy album or (most likely) a silver Roosevelt dime one.

Sorry for any huge images :(

Okay thanks Melina, I didn't get yours out until today.

Thanks, and stick with school, I wish I would have. Maybe I'll go back, LOL.

Enjoyed reading through this thread. I was given a 1940-D Nickel back in change last month going through the drive-thru lane at a McDonalds... Now I have 3 1940 Nickels, and each one a different mint mark.

Cool Robert, might as well start a Dansco or Whitman of your own then, :)

I pulled a 44-D war nickel tonight. So with the 45-S coming in from Melina in our swap I'll be down to 2 remaining Nickels needed for my Whitman album:

    1945-D War Nickel
    and the Notorious 1950-D

    Atreides,

Very nice collection you got going there. Yeah I don't think it will be too long before you stumble across some the remaining coins you need. If you get desperate though I might be able to help in a swap with the War Nickels. I'll have to double check as I may have extras of the 2 you need.
