Do you think this will cross over to PCGS from NGC????

Was wondering if this would cross over to PCGS, this coin is really one of the most eye appealing toners ive ever seen i just do not have the camera equipment to catch it.

May I ask why you would even want to cross it? Unless for personal reasons, I see no real upside of changing plastic.

As for it crossing at grade, I do not believe it would from what I can see in your images, but this is not a type I handle often either.

 

My reason being is that all the other coins in my Ike collection are PCGS MS66 and this one is kind of like an odd ball and also the slab is in terrible condition.

 

it's a nice coin. just collect coins not holders. i would leave it. i have a few sets with mixed NGC/PCGS holders, doesn't bother me. the coins are the point of it all.

Sometimes, you will find that PCGS likes to play their little game of (implied) superiority by undergrading NGC coins......not always......but sometimes. Other times, they like to make NGC look a little foolish by overgrading NGC coins. You may not hear such boasting directly from PCGS, but you will certainly hear it from the kool-aid drinkers. If you want to try to cross your Ike to PCGS at the same grade, then the best thing to do would be to specify MS66 as the minimum acceptable grade.

Personally, I'm a little surprised because I would think that you should have a pretty good understanding of the PCGS grading since all of your other Ikes are in MS66.

Personally, I'd keep it under the label it has now. If it bothers you that much, and you really want to send it to PCGS, crack it out of the NGC holder and submit it raw. At least that way you'll get a more unbiased opinion on grade from PCGS.

 

It would cross but not as MS66. I'm thinking MS65 tops.

 

I feel thats a little harsh chris, i personally feel that PCGS can be unpredictable at times and i have never personally sent in a coin for grading.

 

Its not about the slab at all, its about having a matching set and to be honest i will probly crack it out and add it to my toners in an airtight because it fits in better with that collection. I also feel bad because ultimately someone paid for the opinion and the service, I would have also liked a tru-view photo from PCGS because like i said in my OP the coin is honestly a toned stunner. A replacement PCGS example is soon to be on the way i promise you that.:thumb:

 

On average, about 40% of coins cross from NGC to PCGS when submitted in the holder. About 50% cross the other way. One reason why is that the holder makes it more difficult to examine the coin properly as compared to a raw coin. A NGC toner probably has lower than book odds, so maybe about a 25% chance. If you like those kind of odds then play the crossover game, if not sell it and buy a coin in the holder you want.

 

Thanks guys i think im just going to crack it out and except it for what it is a beautiful toner, no hurt feelings here because i bought this coin because for some reason im attached to it. It could possibly be my favorite coin in my collection like i said i cant capture the true toning on this coin but its awesome in hand. I may even shoot a video of it just to let everyone know im not just babbling on about a lousy toner.

 

This guy knows PCGS grading very well and I agree with him whole heartily on this coin being a PCGS 65.

 

Ohh there is no arguement here i realized very early that it is foolish to argue with professionals...

 

Just cracked it out and this is what it looks like without that dirty old holder, Ike is free again....

 

I'm not trying to be mean, Matthew, but doesn't it seem reasonable that you should be able to compare it against all of your other PCGS MS66 Ikes?

Correct and i do understand where you are coming from but i have bought PCGS MS66 Ikes that look worse than some MS65s.
