    Box of halves: 1 40%er and a 1976 S clad proof

BTW, I've seen a few 1970's clad coins that are toned in a way that makes them look exactly like silver. Not painted or anything, the outer layer of nickel just looks like that frosty bright white of silver. Anyone else run into this?

    4/3/12 results:

    $130 BWR halves - zilch
    $55 CWR halves - (2) 40%, (1) 90% 64 Ken, 1989 clad S Proof. Also a counterstamped Bicentennial and I held onto a 2005 P and D for the heck of it cuz they were wicked clean.
$9 loose halves from the local supermarket - zilch!

Finished my box of nickels tonight. It was an interesting box. Filled mostly with newer coins, but I did manage to pull a war nickel and found another buffalo, a 1925s. A better date coin. Appears to actually be worth more than a war nickel.

2 boxes of Halves - skunk on silver. I did get two that I need though. I only have to find the 2010 P and D and we will have a complete set of Kennedy Halves.

    I'm just waiting for the 2011 D and the 2012s. I thought about buying the 2012 P and D, but I haven't. They'll come around eventually.

searching through a bag of nickels on its way to the coin roller up here at the bank today. so far, i pulled out 30 from the 1950's and 49 pre-1950 nickels, including 4 war nickels and a no-date buffalo. also, pulled a 1977 proof. not bad so far!

Two boxes from my good bank today -

    Box One - 5 - 40%
    Box Two - 2 - 40% / another 1976S clad and 1983S Clad

Did stop at a pawn shop and bought 3 American Silver Eagles for $100.00. Thought that was a pretty good deal.

Picked up two boxes of halves I've been waiting about 5 weeks for. The teller ask me if I find any silver. I tell her every now and again. She then tells me she's surprised I find any because the Fed takes it all out. LOL. I then ask her if the coins come directly from the Fed and she tell me yes. It's comical how little they know about coins and where they come from.

The boxes on a side note, are heavily marked and look pretty skunky.

This was said somewhere else and it is worth mentioning here. If the carriers Dunbar, Brinks, Garda, Loomis took out the silver coins we would all end up stop searching rolls....eventually. This would mean millions or hundreds of thousands of less boxes being ordered by banks, which would mean less money paid out to the banks for the carriers services. This would essentially put the carriers out of job because no one would need their services any longer or they would need them on a greatly reduced scale. They would no longer need people boxing coins and packing trucks and the list would go on and on. By them not pulling silver from the system, they keep all of us CRHer's happy by having a coin or two in the box and we continue to order and they continue to have a job. Long term if they pulled silver from the system it would cost them big time.

Anyone else agree, to me it makes sense.

I don't think they make quite that much money off us, HOTN. But I do think it's mostly worth their while in the long term not to take the silver for themselves. Unfortunately for us, many companies go for short term profits instead. If the truth ever gets out, I wouldn't be surprised either way.

Does anyone know how much a bank gets charged for ordering a box of coin? Or for sending it back after it gets turned back in? The carriers are getting the banks coming AND going. I don't really think they are making money off of US, I think they are making their money off the BANKS, because the banks are servicing our CRHing habits and not charging us. Well, they're not charging me and if they ever did, I'd find someone else who wants my business.

    Box of halves, skunk.

Most banks get a certain number of boxes per denomination each month, then pay extra for over that... my friend who is a manager told me it works out to about $5/box.
