I tried another box of dimes today on my lunch break and was not expecting much because of the dismal results as of late on dimes. I've had bad luck on them and was just doing something to pass the time until I can dump tomorrow and pick up a couple boxes of halves. I was working my way through and at about $125 in some foreign stuff starts showing up, then my first Roosie in a long time. I keep pluggin along and I see another, a 1911 D Barber dime. I'm pretty sure I let an expletive fly as I realized what I had found. This is by far the oldest coin I have pulled from circulation at 100 - 101 years old and my first Barber. HOTN
Congrats man. Are you just edge checking? Seems like it may be possible to miss a worn Barber by the edge.
I edge check everything, this was not too hard to spot as the edge was bright white. I knew it was something good because the reeding is worn smooth and it fit the description of "as thin as a dime". I still can't get over how this made it into a roll, and how i have saved it from the melting pot. Going to have to get some 2 x 2's tomorrow for this guy. HOTN
Ah, gotcha. Many of the barbers I've seen (dimes, quarters, halves) have had dark/black edges, with no reeding. I'd think maybe a black edged worn barber would be hard to see. So anyway, I'm glad you found it. Looking forward to my first Barber roll find.
