It's the history behind these coins that is the most amazing:

I was wondering about that, too. Any opinion appreciated.

I would treat it. The simplest way I know is to get some sticks of brass, polish down an end, (brass will not harm bronze), scrape the bright green off to the extent you can, soak it in distilled water, then warm in a 200 degree oven for a while.

Maybe others have better methods, but that is what I do. You wish to remove as much as possible, soak to get free ions after the scrape off, but then thoroughly dry. Moisture spreads it, so make sure its nice and dry, and try to store it dry. It can come back possibly, but this cures it most of the time.

From the photo it looks like the coin is in a NGC slab :(

They slabbed it with BD? Nice. Another reason to crack it out I guess, as it sure looks like it to me. :(

Btw Guy, not a huge deal. It seems like roman provincials especially seem affected by this. OTOH, if you believe its contained, the slab will help in keeping it dry, which is critical with these.

    Thanks, everyone.

I got it from E-bay (already slabbed) from an uncertain dealer with no Ancient presence for under $60, if I remember correctly. I appreciate Vagi and Co. (at NGC) in these circumstances. I can always do a crack-out.

This coin is from the one period I "accumulate" to further my study--coins from the Third Century Crisis.

    Thanks, again,

You just accumulate from one period? I wish I had your willpower. :)

Lol, I change it about a week ago while going through some drawers. I got pretty disgusted with myself. I am trying to get more organized, so maybe its good I keep getting skunked on purchases lately.
