has anyone ever seen the other coin i posted with the dime? is it ancient rome? gold? copper? also does anyone know of any coin dealers or junk silver sellers in the NJ shore area? thanks for the help.
I have found a few wierd coins lately, one is a cent that is darker and on a larger coin like a nickle, other is a nickle that appears to be detailed although not easy to see like there is no coating on the nickle. i also found a 2005 ocean view nickle that has a rotated reverse, and some pennies that appear to be made from other materials (not the steal pennies) I am new at this today and just got into collecting after my grandfather died and his collection was split between a few of us. if their is anyone who is educated in these error field and can give my valid advice, i would love to trade with them
@riverratac- Just as Hobo said, it's just another dryer coin. There's usually a bunch on ebay and they are only worth their face value (unless they are silver).
Well Ikandiggit, i have seen many many people who were silly enough to buy things like SBA IKEs and other coins you can just get at face value from the bank, paying 2-10 times face value for a circulated average coin. So if people are doing things like that and buying "unsearched" half dollar rolls for 1.5 times face value. Well I think people are dumb enough to also buy a dryer coin for a few bucks lol.
Not just dryer coins but coins with enviromental damage calling them "missing clad layer" or "double struck" which are just hammer jobs.... the list goes on. Just because it's on ebay, doesn't make it valuable.
First, welcome to the neighborhood, Dave! As others have said, it is probably a "dryer coin" or it has been "spooned". I'm more inclined to think it has been spooned because a coin left in a dryer will invariably have edges that hit the wall of the tub randomly, but this appears to be evenly spread around the perimeter of the coin. Naturally, any clad dime that has been spooned will show no trace of the reeding. One thing you should learn quickly is that you can't depend on a lot of what you may read posted by other sellers on eBay. That is why it is often referred to as FleaBay or SleazeBay and the people who fall for such garbage are considered bidiots. Chris
My favorite is when someone has something to sell which they don't know the value of. Then to get an idea of the items value they check Ebay, but instead of looking at the sold listings they look at the asking prices . Often you will see these people saying their pencil is worth 4.5 million because they saw another one on Ebay listed for the same amount O.O
