1st hello all, im dave and im new here, ive been reading for a little bit. now i figured i would join and try to gain some knowledge and tricks of the trade. i just recently started collecting again. i was going through this box of coins my father gave me a few years back and i came across this 1966 roosevelt dime on a copper penny blank. does anyone have a clue what the value of this coin could be? or have any info about it. any input would be greatly appriaciated. thanks all.
I would also like to see pictures. Dime on Cent planchet cannot exist as the cent planchet is larger than a dime planchet and would not fit into the feeder for the dime press. we can't tell you what you do have without photos. Richard
wrong planchet ok guys ill have to try and take some pics. and post them, and your correct the dime is punched deep and the edges of the coin stick up pretty far, its definitly a copper coin with a rossie dime stamped in it!
OK so it is well struck. That would tend to make missing clad layers unlikely. Once again the most likely explanation is going to be discoloration from environmental damage.
wrong planchet coin its just a little smaller than a penny because its punched all the in, and no reeded edge the edge is copper. i just took pics. i also found this other coin in the box, can anyone identify it? sorry best pics. i could get right now.
Your coins appears to be a 'dryer coin'. (Do a search of the site for a good explanation.) The weight of your coin (to the nearest 0.01 grams) would be helpful.
I agree with Lon. Based on those images it appears to be a rolled or spooned regular dime. In other words, post mint damage.
i dont think so, because you cant see in the pics. coin has no reeded edges and are copper. id really love to know what that other coin is?
It doesn't have a reeded edge and is thicker than normal because it was rolled. It shows copper because a 1966 dime is nickle over copper. It is 75% copper.
i just seen a simular dime on ebay its lister as a dime with a copper coin. im sorry im not sure what a dryer coin is? but thanks for all the replys.
im not hoping to get rich from the coin, i would just like to find out what it is. guess noone knows any info on that old roman looking coin? id love to know what that is.
As I recommended above, search this site for "dryer coin" for a good explanation. Essentially a dryer coin is a coin that got stuck in the fin of a commercial clothes dryer and got tumbled for a considerable time.
