You may also want to look at this to get an idea of grade:

    http://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/#/3CentNic/Grades

Then condition is very important after the wear (grade) is determined. Are the surfaces original, cleaned, damaged, corroded or toned, etc.?

All these are legitimate affects on value before you even begin to talk about scrupulous and unscrupulous buyers, wholesale vs resale, etc.

Now I can see as low as VF30 based on Photograde based on wear to the lower curls if that is on the coin and not the photo. 2010 Redbook VF20 $25, VF40 $35. But I would change many graded coins in photograde, so that is just a convenient starting point.

Wrong. PCGS's prices can be accurate on many series.

I prefer numismedia anyway. Google it, they're free price guides.

If they are accurate on some I stand corrected. I have just never seen them be accurate before and thats looking at Washingtons, Roosies, Kennedys, Morgans, liberty head gold.

Come to think of it classic head $2.5 prices on PCGS are fairly accurate. I guess 1/6 aint bad lol.

they are all so close looking... I would say the MS 65 is the closest, but i don't know much about this stuff....lol...there is only a couple of little spots in the hair that doesn't have the detail, but everything else is , what I would consider, perfect...all the detail is still there, the word "liberty" is clean and bold, and very readable ...The Eyes , nose and mouth have all the details...

based on those pictures, I would estimate a VF to XF grade.

In my opinion, for what it is worth, not uncirculated.

The dime may also go VF to XF, but looks like some kind of damage.

It doesn't appear to be round.

You know the prices reflected only stand for coins entombed in PCGS plastic, right? Given that, the prices are fairly accurate, and not over by much, if at all. The prices I've paid for my Merc dime set this far actually come in OVER the PCGS price guide. Granted, I'm buying coins that are fairly PQ for the grade, but my point stands... it's still a fairly accurate guide.

Well.....My first lesson in "Shady" dealers....lol.....the guy at the coin shop tried to act like I didn't have anything of value at all...offered me $40 for all of my coins....I took them back and walked out of the store...

Thats' only because of the angle of the picture, I used a Magnifying glass to get a better picture....the coin is perfectly round..

Reminds me of my first trip to the now local coin store. I walked in with two AU Morgans, no intention on selling them I just wanted to find out if they where super special because they looked quite nice and were in great shape. He kept stressing they were cleaned (they were not), and said that they were total junk and hed give me 20 bucks each.

Well I have not been in that store since. Possibly never will be either.

@snapsalot: Yeah, he tried to tell me that one of them was cleaned, I know for a fact it wasn't, and they have been in that envelope for at least 30 years now...

$40 doesn't seem that bad of an offer... a bit on the low side, granted, but the guy has to pay rent, bills, wages and then still have some for himself. I probably would have offered $55-$60 max, provided they were all in fine or better and had no issues.

The 3c looks to be in VF or so condition... the half dime looks to have some kind of surface damage, probably environmental, and is also a VF-XF coin at best.

Where has the envelope of goodies been for the last 30 years?

I'm not saying any of your coins were cleaned, as I've seen no evidence of it, but it was a common practice many years ago to clean coins.

They have been tucked away in a box , inside the envelope in my father in law's Den..He past away back in the 80's ...My wife said that he loved collecting coins, but she didn't even know about them...and that have sat there until I found them the other day

OK. I thought it may have been an inheritance situation. I'm sure he thought highly of those coins.

Is there somewhere that I could send these to get a "neutral" opinion for grading , and/or certified ?

My question is how much would you sell these coins for not how much you would pay for them? Rather look at this at a collector's viewpoint not a dealers. Also, my suspicion is the pictures do not give justice to the coin.

They're not worth the cost of having them slabbed. That runs $30+ per coin, minimum. If you wish to mail them to me, I'll take a look at them and give you my honest opinion on grades and take some better pictures of them for you.
