The ANA's National coin week is April 15-21. It's about getting people informed about our hobby and trying to encourage people to become collectors... or at least to stop and notice their pocket change for once. My shop in conjunction with the Indianapolis Coin Club will be spending about $1,500 worth of collectible coins around our city. We are spending 100 1909 VDB cents, a 1909 S Lincoln, and a handful of 90% silver coins. I have already contacted the media and they are going to cover our story. Hopefully this will get people locally to stop and look at their change and maybe find something neat. Are you doing anything during coin week?
I wasn't aware of coin week but now that I am, I'll spend some of my dateless Buffalo nickels and some wheaties - just to prime the numismatic pump so to speak.
Wow, I thought I had an original idea when I planned on carrying Ikes, SBA's, Dateless Buffs and Wheats that week to spend that week instead of using cash and my debit card. I'd love to find some silver or a 1909-S that week, shame I'm a long ways away from Indiana
Thanks for reminding us about national coin week. I will ask my bank manager if he would like me to loan them a display case for the week. Unfortunately, it takes-up most of the table that they normally use for their brochures. I did it (2 years ago) and included a simple Whitman folder of nickels on top of the USA state quarter map and a small pile of off center error coins. The title simply stated: "It's National Coin week. Do you collect coins?" This year they may just want to display the USA state quarters map. It stands upright on its own & takes-up less table space. I think that we could just use wire to connect it to the table so it doesn't just walk away. We made some 8.5" x 5.5" flyers that listed the next few area coin shows. I didn't actually count them but I don't think that many flyers were actually used.
Such things should be held here to.This week alone i took 4 pieces of €2 out of the register that where "limited editions"People do not know what they have in their pockets.
Didn't know. Guess I'll get out my wheaties and spend a bunch of '40's and 50's. That should be good for a little wow factor for some people.
