I have this earlier copper penny dated 1858 which I got in a huge collection at an antiques auction yesterday. There are known varieties of 8 over 7 and 8 over 3 on the last 8 of the date. Although it appears to have a flat top like a 7 the body looks like a 3. An 8 over 3 is worth considerably more than a normal 1858 or 1858 over 7. Any thoughts ?
1858/7. Reference: Peck 1516. In this condition, it is not worth more than the regular date. There is also a possible 1858/3, but this is unconfirmed and likely does not exist.
