I need help ith cherry pickers :)

Hi everyone!

Ok so I need help. Either I need a website thats just like cherry picker. I found http://coppercoins.com, but they are only for pennys and I most collect quarters, halves, and dollars. So if anyone knows a site I can go to for finding out most/all errors and die VAMS. That would be awesome and appreciated.

The other option is maybe someone has a old cherry pickers book they don't use or want anymore? I can not afford to buy one myself right now :/

CONECA lists varieties for most other denominations, but I don't think they include photos.

In your opinion is VAMworld fairly up to date with 99% of all known errors?

Also do you know of any sites for half dollars or possibly quarters? They are both by far my most collected coin (I roll hunt them and often buy huge bags of junk quarters)

Vamupdate hasn't been UPDATED since 2008.

VAMWorld is the best place to get the most current info. New discoveries are posted there almost as soon as they are confirmed by Leroy Van Allen.

I don't know where the best place would be for quarters & halves. I use the CPG.

Sell a few silver quarters or something, that will give you enough to buy it...

 

You might be able to have your library order it from a larger library in their network until you can afford to purchase it.

 

Well that VAMworld site is fun. I had one **** of a time VAMing 2 of my morgans. I got a 1897 VAM-11 and then it would seem I have discovered a new version of the 1884 VAM-9

Basically both coins have weird placed dates is the bottom line Ill post pics in awhile.

 

If you have money to collect Morgans, quarters & halves, how can you not afford a Cherrypicker's Guide?

 

got those both for free as a gift. They are my only two morgans.

As was earlier mentioned, used copies can sometimes be found cheap on Amazon. I picked up a few copies of the 4th edition Vol II for under $10. If you understand how to identify varieties, and unless only hoping to locate profitable coins, cherrypickers should be of little use. The book is nothing more than a sampling of the better known/popular/significant varieties and nowhere near an all-encompassing reference. Using the CONECA master listings then cross referencing with Ebay and/or auction results could be just as helpful to you.

 

Well when I roll hunt I have always just kept the silver or the extreme high BU. It would be cool to have a lot of key dates and errors to also look for.

But ya it was pretty easy to figure out how to look for the VAM with my Morgans. Time consuming, but fairly easy. The 1884 was literally like the last VAM on the list out of about 30 types and variations :/.

On a separate note should I send in my pics of the 1884 to the VAMworld guy? its a VAM-9 but different then the 2 variations they have listed and only the date is the same, the markers are not. If so how do i do it?

If you feel it was easy finding the 1884, just pray you don't have to find a 1921 P, D or S. Even the 1878 8TF can cause you to pull your hair out.

First of all, the VAMWorld site is wiki-based, meaning that the members post the photos. You have to register beforehand, but unless you can provide really good close-up photos you would just be spinning your wheels. Besides, the process to post photos is a real pain. You have to be very careful to give each and every photo a unique name. Otherwise, you run the risk of overwriting other photos, and they don't like it when that happens.

If you are familiar with the VAM-9 youll see the date is in exact same spot. However it does not have any of the markers associated with either variation.

 

and it was the 1897 vam11 that was fairly easy.

For the 1884 vam-9 i had to go through tons and tons of offset dates until finally finding the right kind.
