Don't give up dude. The way I see it, the more skunks you have, the higher are your chances for a big score. Numbers have a way of working out. And your odds of a motherload box increase.

Went through a box of quarters:
    1968D AU condition
    1971D Unc. condition
    1983D Mint BU condition
    1990P Unc. condition
    1999P Connecticut Mint BU condition
    2002D Louisiana Mint BU condition
    2002D Mississippi Mint BU condition
2005D West Virginia Mint BU condition
2006D South Dakota Mint BU condition

There are finds to be found in boxes of quarters and halves etc. that can be described other than by just saying "skunked" when you don't find any silver. Finding older high-grade clad coins offsets the disappointment in not finding a silver coin in boxes. I suggest thinking 'outside the box' like I do if all you look for is silver as doing so will make roll searching more exciting for you.

  6. I almost forget 1 roll of halves that I found on sat. It had a 69.

Geez, yourself and Ace have been having some terrible luck the month of March. I really hope it turns around for you guys because this is just discouraging. Would you say that you and Ace are the biggest hunters of the area? Do you know how the flow of coin works? Is everything you dump staying in the local area and there's just not enough new silver making it into the system?

Someone from the forum once explained to me that a while back when people had silver and they needed the money it all got cashed in. Now people are "less strapped for cash" and maybe they actually have come to realize the price of silver and are hanging onto it. Until there is another recession or crisis maybe folks are not digging through their basements, closets, and attics for change to cash in to pay a bill.

Perhaps your just down wind of someone doing some major volume and dumping in your district?

At any rate, good luck to you, and hopefully your next boxes will all give up some silver for you. I still have to think it's all about volume, right?

I think the economy is turning around pretty quick around here... at least from my standpoint, it seems like more and more of my friends have gainful employment, so that certainly could be it, but I think it's more a matter of too many people in the game and the halves are just getting turned over so fast that silver isn't finding it's way in unless you get lucky.

I mean, between Ace, myself, and a couple other people who are searching that I've heard about, we're talking 12 boxes a week... and that's just in the limited area that I've talked to tellers about. Further north and east, into Philly, there's probably even more. I'd speculate that roll searchers in the Philly area probably turn over somewhere around $50k a week in halves at a minimum given how tough it is to come across silver.

I would even take this a step further. if possible dump at a bank that uses a different delivery service then you pick up banks. In my area everyone uses brinks so even though i pick up at 5th3rd and dump at pnc I am still getting the same coins back. :(

Try to dump at a brinks bank and pick up at a strings and sons or visa versa etc.

Agreed Merc - I know of at least 3-4 others in our area besides Merc and myself. I've also had the misfortune of picking up the one guys rerolls. That really gets my goat. I walked into a bank on Saturday and was about to ask if they had Halves when I noticed 4 boxes that two tellers were struggling with...all Strings Half boxes, only they were filled completely with the brown paper re-rolls of Dr. Dumps!

I then asked if they could sell me $50 in dimes and then I got out of there. This guy goes along branch by branch over like 10 miles and dumps everywhere he can. It's so annoying when there are a zillion coin counting machines.

Things are just really bad right now. Hopefully they'll turn around soon, because it's not too much fun for me anymore.

Went through 6 boxes of halves Saturday :

    Box 1:Skunk.

    Box 2: Skunk.

    Box 3: Skunk !

    Box 4 : Skunk!

    Box 5: 1 44'D Walking Liberty

    Box 6 : 1 64' .

I had to just power through those boxes ,it was getting pretty stinky until that walker popped up. Im hoping to get some bags of IKE's this week from my bank along with my usual order of halves. I told them you actually have to call to verify availability and they seemed more than happy to do so(fingers crossed) I'd love to get a Morgan or Peace dollar from circulation!

I saw a "Brinks" guy at the market the other day and struck up a conversation with him (while his partner worked on something else) .... In the talk he mentioned that Brinks now has a "machine" that pulled the silver out of all the coinage that comes through. He said it was now in this 'region'. I then said something like, "Brinks should be making a killing" and he agreed. Maybe this is all of the board as I haven't been reading lately, but I thought I'd pass this along for what it's worth...

Stopped in the bank today and got 5 rolls of halves, The first roll was heavily marked, 3x's across kennedys face in the first roll alone, I thought the others would be skunk but got lucky as the 3rd and the last roll each had a 40% half! Ahh yea~ 2 40% halfs!

2 boxes of halves, skunk on silver. I finally found a 74 D ddo! It is not in the best shape, but I do not care. I have looked off and on for one of these since I was 12.
