http://www.ioffer.com/i/1oz-silvertowne-generic-silver-bullion-bar-163956039 I know the seller has good feedback and all, but I'm always skeptical when buying from ioffer. Any feedback is appreciated.
1 ounce for 34 bucks......probably real in my opinion, don't see any reason why it wouldn't be although I have never bid from that site
Yes acid testing is how you check for silver, gold, platinum content and purity. Ever go to a pawnshop with some gold and they rub it on a stone then drop some liquid on it? Well thats acid testing. When dealing with bullion having acid test kit nearby is always a smart move.
Screw it, I'm buying it. I've done a little research and although the website is know for being a scam, it's only because they sell knock off brands and such. And this seller has good feedback and sells many coin related things. I'll post back when I get my item.
Those bars are 100% genuine. We have a bullion dealer who sets up at the local show and has many of these exact same 1 oz. bars. That's a darn good price too.
It should be, if you're really that worried then do a test. Price looks nice, I'd say go for it if you really want it.
What am I missing here? I open the link and see a one ounce bar for $52 (including shipping). I buy one ounce bars for just over melt.
I'm getting a different page when I click on the link. This is what I copied off the page: 1oz Silvertowne Generic Silver Bullion Bar $52.00 Shipping Included
I just reviewed the seller looking at his past sales and feedback. Honestly it looks legit to me. I wouldnt jump off the deep end and buy thousands of dollars of stuff right away, but buying a few coins or bars I'd feel ok doing it myself. Let us know how it gos Apierce and let us know if the tests come back positive for the silver The check only thing sounds like a pain but i guess thats par for the course with bullion.
I''ve ran into some zinc / silver plated stuff before. If done right its not really possible to tell by doing just the file because it looks just like the silver which is on the top. Gotta file then acid test the below metal to be 100%
Yea, i know that they do plate zinc but i've never seen one done in person, so i couldn't exactly say the color. My only guess would be a dark-silver looking
Well in my few experiences with none copper, silver plated items what I found every time I recall it was lighter in color then the silver not darker. There was one time though that whatever the metal was underneath they got it to be a dark silvery color and since the silver on the outside had dark toning it was impossible to tell by looking. It was some glassware I had gotten. These really cool cupholders, each weighed like 4 oz they had all the right marks too like .925 sterling. But after a scratch and acid test they where false. They actually where made to scam because they had an unusual thick silver plating. it was seriously a good half MM thick. Not like a normal plating job. My first scratch test came back positive for being straight silver. i had to etch really deep to find the zinc or w/e it was underneath.
close to the asking price on silvertowne's website. If you are really worried about being fake can get them from silvertowne for $1.30 more a bar (with free shipping it says) http://www.silvertowne.com/p-11650-silvertowne-trademark-1oz-999-silver-bar.aspx
I'd rather have this: http://www.ioffer.com/i/1oz-silver-mexican-libertdad-various-years-171363999 for only 75 cents more. But anyway, what is ioffer? I've never heard of it before. Is it a scam site? Also, why on earth does everything I type after a link show as a link? It's annoying.
