My wife wanted to give one as a present and today it came in.
Then I realized these are the first 2012 coins available, other than the quarter sets.
Could this set be considered something along the likes of the Millennium ASE, or even a FISRT STRIKE candidate?
    Just passing along my thoughts

You may be on to something. Get them to a TPG as quickly as you can!
Maybe they can get a special label.

    Any errors in the bunch?

I've read that NGC is disposed to provide the Early/First Releases designation.

No errors, but they are .999 silver instead of 90%. Just kidding

  6. For the Birth Set coins, the TPG label can read "early delivery" and may carry a premium. ;). TC

I'm sure the someone at the mint watches these forums.
Do you think they stopped selling these in order to go through
inventory to pull out the silver halves?

Thanks bkprewitt, that is one interesting thread over at CC.
I pulled my coins and they appear copper, it's time I buy a scale.
BTW, I just ordered 2 more sets. :hail:

Nope. I just ordered and BTW, there could be 10s of thousands already at the distribution centers.
My order is "In stock and reserved."

    Wow!

I know for a fact that the US Mint had a Security Guard which pinch error Presidential Dollars and sold them for a profit.

Rumors have circulated for YEARS that whenever the US Mint needed to boost sales, they would simply "create" an error situation. Remember the Missing Edge Lettering Monroes in the 2008 Annual Dollar Sets?

I cannot help but wonder, since IMO the Birth Year Sets are losers, if this wasn't intentionally done to increase sales?

Worse yet, I wonder what the long term impact would be if someday its proven that these "sales" tactics were actually used?

Just got my sets. No silver. They're off to NGC anyway. First release of proof coins (except the quarter, of course).
It may create an artificially high price for these, even in future years.

Got my 8 yesterday. No Silver. (He slumps with frustrated disappointment back into his chair)

As of now, NGC has graded and labeled 27 of the Birth Set Silver Half Dollars, and PCGS has not published their numbers yet.
I wonder if any silver half dollars have been released since the mint's search.
I also wonder if these (90% and clad) will command any premium by being labeled as from the Birth Set.
