Hello, i am trying to get some further information on a coin i've recently acquired, and a forum seemed the logical place to start. I have found this link: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=109066

The coin i have seems to be very similar to the one in the link.
I am hoping for more information about the coin and am also wondering if what the link above has said is accurate.

    Here are some pics:

It appears to be the same one.

Nah, two different coins. But both fakes.

@GDJMSP do you mean a different coin or different design/model/version (how do you call it?)?

pureth - the coin in link you are talking about is fake, a counterfeit. Do you understand that ?

Your coin is also a fake, but it is not the same coin as the one in the link. But it may have been made by the same counterfeiter.

As to whether not it's a rare fake, I have no idea. But even if it is, it doesn't really mean much other than few of them have ever been seen. Most fakes aren't worth anything, but there are a few people who do collect them.

Think about it. If you made one of these fakes, it would be unique, the only one known. But that wouldn't make it worth anything.

If you want to know more about it then try and find John Lorenzo or contact the guy who posted about him on the other forum.

Hi, yes, i knew the coin was a fake when i bought it along with a lot of coins. What i was trying to say in in my third post is 'do you mean it's not the same physical coin shown in the picture?', i could figure that out cause the stamps is in a different place, but was trying to confirm your posts meaning.
Its interesting to know a bit more about fake coins in general.
    Thank you.

Does anybody have an opinion on whether the countermark on the coin is genuine?
    Thanks

To the best of my knowledge the countermark is fake. Genuine examples are all oval shaped.

I am amazed at how many fakes I have encountered from this series.

    Here is mine from 1776:

    Doug,

A genuine octagonal counter mark is noted in Krause. It is noted as being much better then the oval ones.

Fair enough, I stand corrected on that.
