    YN update with show pics!

I set up at our local show this past Saturday and was very happy to see 7 students and their families from the Young Notables class in attendance. This is why I facilitate this class! This week the intrepid Young Notables explored caring for collections. The evils of PVC were aptly demonstrated with BEP holders reeking of the telltale shower curtain smell. Soon 26 kids were smelling every coin and currency holder in the room. A parent happened to walk by the open door to the library about then with a very puzzled look on their face![IMG] Flips, sleeves, pages, albums were all explored. We revisited the various values of collectibles as well. Financial value; historical value; sentimental value; and educational value were all discussed some more. Payday was World currency along with some error note cd's and paper money catalogs. It was very fun to listen to the kids leaf through the catalog and discover money they never knew existed. I love that moment! This week's challenge question it to tell me where Slovenia is and three facts about the country. All students who make the extra effort will get a bonus next week.

Thanks again to all who have supported this group over the last several years!

This week the Young Notables discovered some of the vast variety of numismatic collectibles. From the many types of coins and currency we moved on to stock certificates, bank checks, and even Disney Dollars! The class seemed amazed by the stock certificates. This led into a great discussion about vignettes and what is represented on various collectibles. The baseball fans in the group were thrilled to learn they could take home a bank check from the Cooperstown National Bank dated in the 1880's! The time seemed to fly as did the camera! A lot of pictures ended up blurry this week but I think that may have been the excitement of out cameraman!! Thanks again to all who have donated!!!

This week's class involved more caring for collections. This time shiny round discs took center stage. The class learned the proper way to hold a coin and practiced putting an uncirculated coin into a 2x2. Those students who completed the weekly challenge were rewarded with an extra coin. Payday was a mixture of world notes. Those who volunteered to be class helpers earned extra notes. The concept of circulated vs. uncirculated was explained as a lead into out class on the Sheldon scale and grading. Thanks again to all of our terrific donors! I am incredibly thankful for all of those who have donated. Thanks!

Oh! The rigors of trying to drill a 70 point scale into minds that believe 100 is perfect! Yes, you guessed it, it's Sheldon Scale time at the Young Notables class! As if uncirculated vs. circulated wasn't enough this week we conquered grading using the Sheldon scale. "Yes class, there are notes grading Poor 1. Well at least one that I have personally seen!" 100_5946.jpg 100_5951.jpg 100_5947.jpg 100_5948.jpg

Payday was a variety of FRN $1 & $2 notes. Fancy numbers abounded with this payout! Students also received a bonus for doing a great job paying attention to the lesson so I rewarded them with a bonus payout of world currency! They also got a sneak peek at what an uncut sheet of 4 $2 looks like. If they complete this week's challenge question their name goes in the drawing for one of these awesome prizes!!

It is hard to believe we are already at the half way point of this class. Time flies when you are having fun!!

If anyone has an explanation or suggestion why the cash donations have not been forwarded to the Young Notables, please PM me or Frank (Omega) with the information. Thanks again to everybody that contributed.

    My latest email from Rusty (mpcusa) on March 4th ;

    Hi Steve,

Sorry for the long delay in getting back to you but Sunday is my only day off, dont have much
Time the rest of the week to do anything else but work and sleep!

As far as progress on the Bob Connor Memorial fund is concerned there is nothing new to
Report, i just dont understand why Chris Connor has not been in contact with me to get this
Taken care off? You could try and help me get a hold of Rickie that would be a big step in the right direction, i know he has my e-mail

My good friend Tess posts allot on C.T. and she is trying to get in touch with Rickie, to so we can get this

Taken care off, he was the one that reported Bob,s passing but i know he himself has some
Serious health issues so i,am not sure how often he has been on if at all.

Not sure if this is good or bad but i was just informed yesterday that unless my contract is extended
I will be coming home at the end of March, then this can be handled first hand.

    Thanks, Rusty

P.S also sending a cc to Frank (Omega)

    To all whom are concerned:
First let me say I am shocked to learn of this. Omega has sent me numerous emails about the $$$ never being sent in for Bob's fund. As many of you know I have had my own issues and just got out of hosp on this past tuesday for treatment #6. I am making progress but I am dog tired!

I would like to say that Bob Conner was a friend of mine who shared the love of engraving and banknotes and we often talked over the phone. I too sent in cash and notes for the young kids. I had nothing to do with establishing this fund or collecting any cash or notes from it. If I recall correctly, I asked Rusty not to do this so soon and give it some time. For a while I was intouch with Bob's son, Chris and all my medical stuff came crashing down and I lost touch not only with him but with Coin Talk as a whole. I am sad to say that I feel less of a member today than the years that preceeded my illness.
I am sure MPCUSA has good intentions but I am in no way involved in setting up this fund for teh Young Notables. Yes, I did the graphic work for the post, but that is it. I hope you all find peace in this and I do hope to read one day where it has all been taken care of. I am tired and do not feel like chasing this down and hope you understand how I feel. This was not my deal...I am happy to say my hands, heart and mind are free from any guilt.

    God Bless you all..

From my reading of the above E-mail I don't think Rusty is saying you are involved in the problem. I think that it's more that he thinks you may be more successful in contacting all involved and getting the situation resolved than he has been.

I agree 100%, and just want some answers.

    A) Total funds raised.
    B) Who has possession of the funds.
    C) What is the holdup.
    D) How can I help.

I am not pointing fingers, or trying to "stir the pot". Frank and I are only trying to get this resolved. There are contributors among us that would like to see the funds end up where they were intended, and getting the conversation started is the first step.

    Hi all,

I don't mean to put my nose where it does not belong. I did hear from Rusty not to long ago (about a week ago regarding my husband's accident). Rusty's work outside the country had been extended. I think he is living out of a box/suitcase. I get the idea that he did not plan to be away so long. Not sure if that info helps. Also, in the past, he indicated that he could not access CT from his company's system.

Things will work out. Try private messaging also. He appears to get his email.

    Tess;)
