I have made a few conservative bids on Sedwick's treasure auctions and not won. I have a few Spanish colonial cobs (all 17th century Potesi) but it seems to me that the estimates and minimums for some of the auction lots are bit high. Has anyone here participated seriously in the auctions and what has been your experience?

I used to buy from Dan all the time, but that was before he ever even had auctions, his first was in '07. So I cannot comment on the auctions themselves. Looking at his upcoming auction, the estimates for those coins I am most familiar with seem right in line with what they should be. That said, this is an area that has exploded in popularity in recent years. And prices have followed right along.

I will say this, he has my highest recommendation. And you don't have to just wait for the auctions, you can buy direct from him at any time.

I have purchased some coins from Sedwick

The estimates are only there for our reference. You simply bid what you want providing it meets the current minimum bid. The good coins in Sedwick's auctions get much attention from bidders. I too have been out-bid in the past. If you see something really nice, the chances are good that several others are going to see it also. There are many good coins in the Sedwick auctions and in their inventory.

I reviewed the auction #11 catalog while traveling today. I'll be bidding on a few coins;)
