Trying to catalog my cents & had this one tucked back with a possible facial lam. I would have just called PMD were it not for the ear & other struck details under the area in question. If confirmed as a lam, how would it have been possible to have details under the detached portion? Was it detached before strike? Thanks for any answers!

It looks to me like the loose lamination was still on the planchet during the strike and fell off after the strike. the design details were transferred thru the thin laminated part.

My thoughts as well, what about this one? I'm leaning towards environmental damage, but appears to have spider web looking cracks around the upper perimeter of the area in question.
    Thanks again.

Looks like damage to me. Reverse photo would be helpful though (second coin).

I agree with the other poster , this looks like it may be damage from something striking the coin. if it is the other side of the coin should show a little damage directly opposite the hole in your coin.

I'll dig it back out tomorrow, but 83.271% sure the rev is clean.

if the reverse is totally damage free then you have a struck thru coin. I have seen coins with about everything struck into them by the coin dies. I sold a coin on ebay a while back that was still sealed in the mint set . it looked exactly like it had been struck thru a large size ring setting like say a diamond or some other type material. even the faceted cuttings of the stone was visible.
