I am showing these 2005 bison 5 cent coins because a fellow member asked me for photos of them to compare to his coins. both of these different variety coins have been confirmed to have been struck by the same pair of dies. the clashed die was polished off the die to create this best type of the detached leg coins.
the photos are courtesy of BJ Neff thanks BJ

Really interesting coin. I'd love to see some feedback from some of the error experts. After reading some of your past history though it's a shame that you'll probably get any responses though after alienating everyone on here with your miraculous find earlier. Hope I'm wrong as the missing leg looks interesting. Could be altered for all I know though.

After closer inspection, I'd have to say mine aren't the same. No detached leg. Maybe just scraped from other coins in the bag.
    Thanks for showing these though.

don't give up on your coins yet. there are three different types of the detached leg coins in the P mint series and one type in the D mint series. the one on this thread is nicknamed by me as the ULTRA detached leg coin and has a wider seperation between the body and the leg than the other types. I was once selling these coins on ebay and I gave these coins this nickname so other folks could know what they were buying , then other ebay sellers started lying and said they were selling the ultra detached leg which was not true.. these coins can easily be identified from looking at the trail of the E in e pluribus unum , it looks as if the E was slid across the coin. one type the seperation is so small it is hard to see. also the D mint detached leg is hard to see.

hey I get along good with all of the coin experts that I personally know except one and actually him and me have problems from time to time but we usually get over it and move on like adults should be able to do. if we always agreed on everything we would never learn new things.

    Same die interest.

Thanks for the pics. I have both of these coins and I am currently working on finding out any info about them I can. Please share with me any new info you may have/receive about these being from the same die. I find this very interesting and would like a major grading company to recognize / verify the fact.

I see that you are a new member . Welcome to the CT forum. The way I identified these as being from the same die was by comparing the two die gouges on Jefferson's nose . The clashed die coins have been hard for me to find , the die was probably abraided very soon after the dies clashed. when I found the few that I did find they were always in the same roll as the ULTRA detached leg coins.

as far as I know there has only been one write up about them as being from the same die. you can google maddieclashes.com then find where the nickels are at on there and read about them.

It would be nice to get die numbers assigned for the detached leg coins so folks could know which detached leg coin they were buying when buying off Ebay or somehere else.

Yeah, I agree about the die numbers being paired with each variety. A fellow roll hunter also told me that he opened a few mint rolls and was finding the clash and ultra leg error in the same rolls. I can confirm that. Would it be possible to find out why each die used was abraided, specifically notes stating that a clash was the reason, then put into production with the discovery then being noted of the detached leg, flowing E, ETC. Thanks. I am attending the FUN show in Florida later this month and plan on discussing this possibility with others. I will post the results. Thanks
