Good call, and good to know. I don't like to post misinformation. What constitutes military collectibles? Medals, pins, uniforms? That type of stuff?
I believe all those would fall into that category. I believe (and I could be wrong) that most historical Nazi items can be sold on eBay (other than weapons)...it's the new neo-Nazi stuff they don't allow, for obvious reasons. Here is a link to the WWII German militaria section on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Germany-/36044/i.html?_catref=1
I don't think that's correct either. If I recall, it is allowed to keep and sell historical items. But again, nothing new can be produced and it's illegal to put out propaganda.
My friend in Munich said it was a felony to posses such items. You have to have a license or something. I dunno. It all sounded strange to me. What I do know is that I can not use the words "Third Reich" "Nazi" "SS" or "Iraq" on my listings unless I exclude shipping to Germany.
Your friend does not seem to be well informed then. What eBay does with your listings is up to eBay and whatever policy it applies, of course. What is certainly true, however, is that you cannot sell nazi propaganda here. Rule of thumb: Nazi stuff made after 1945 is illegal in Germany. But of course it may be attractive for US sellers to add "NAZI COINAGE!! ILLEGAL IN GERMANY!!" to auction descriptions. Incorrect but probably helpful. Christian
I'm sure he's not, but I wonder if that is the general understanding among the youth/college crowd. He was not the only one of my friends that have stated that. Of course it's all anecdotal. As far as eBay is concerned, they're pretty strict on the language when it comes to selling to Germany. Well...at least on my listings they have been. This I do know from selling for the past 15 years. Nevertheless, thanks for the info. At least now it is somewhat cleared up for me.
For me I would not have that in my home. Any thing Natzi related that generates money is in bad taste. At least to me. You have to live with your choices
i have read quite a few listings for these coins that they cannot be sold or shipped to Italy ,Germany, France or Austria as per the rules of ebay.
I get what you mean, but I don't market them as Nazi this or Hitler that. They are usually part of a mix of several coins I'll have on a listing. I simply describe what each coin is. I by no means am promoting it exclusively like this seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/160748951952?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p398 4.m1497.l2649#ht_500wt_1200
Again, what eBay does is eBay's decision. Fortunately that company does not make the laws here in Germany. Christian
You'll find that there are many people the believe nobody should own anything related to the Third Reich because it is "evil." So, those who choose to collect these coins or any other items from this period in Germany will run into this belief. It's just part of the deal. Not to dig up old history, but here is a prime example of what I'm talking about from a couple years ago: http://www.cointalk.com/t64603/
yeah i can understand but i dont think that its that serious in todays day and age as it was in say 1946. ive studied that era for some years now and am fascinated with all aspects of it even the nazi party although im odiously against their ideals and actions of the day. there are many other great nations and civilizations that im sure someone would consider to be "evil" where the rest of the population wouldnt think twice about them or in fact hold them in some kind of high regard, like the Egyptions for instance, they enslaved countless numbers of people for a great many more years that the third reich lasted but you probably wouldnt think it to be evil to own something from them. its a personal preference and choice to collect or dismiss such items. for me i collect ww2 items and a large part of that history includes the nazis whether people like it or not. i feel like it makes my collection more complete to have them represented regardless of how some people think of them. it happened, we over came it and nothing will ever change that. having a deep hatred of something is only that of the same emotions that sparked crimes against humanity. let me end with this. i in no way condone any of the actions taken by nazis in any way shape or form at any point in time. im sorry if offended anyone as that is not my intentions here, just trying to make a simple point. not sure i want to get into reading that old thread, haha
