Grams are weighed. clad is .2 grams and the 1968 and pre 64 dimes are coming in at .3 grams. My scale is rounding up. Silver dimes should weigh at 2.5 and clad is 2.27. It is weighing the same as a silver dime.

Not trolling, just asking for some advice. I have weighed the coins and the 1968 that I have is silver.

i am not an expert what so ever, but if you are absolutely positive it is a silver one i should send it to PCSG or NGC
Because when that coin is silver you have a very unique piece in your hand...

    You need a better scale!
Koen is right! If you are so sure, stop arguing and send it to PCGS or NGC.
When you get it back, post it here and either gloat or eat crow.

Picture is a little blurry, is it possible the coin is actually a messed up 1960 date and everyone is right?

That's the thing. I am no expert either. I have never sent any coin in for Grading. I am not sure how to do that, what If my coin gets lost or something happens to it? I collect for silver content only. Any advice on how to or what steps are taken to send it in?

never mind, this is bananas. I am just asking for advice and you are judging me. Threads for help with rare coins is crazy. You all should be willing to help and not be suck jerks. I will figure out this on my own. Thanks for all who gave advice.

I don't want to be rude, but I don't believe this coin to be silver. But, that's not confirmed...just my opinion. I would not send the coin in to be graded unless you are absolutely sure it's silver. Take the coin to a dealer and have them weigh it on a good scale. IMHO, it sounds like the scale you used was not accurate enough to confirm the difference. If you try and send the coin in without doing the research first, it would likely be a waste of money.

Yeah, but even if people with years of experience with coins tell you it s not silver you still dont believe them.
    What do you want?
That we tell you it is silver to make you happy, or that we tell the truth about the coin.
When it is not silver we cant make it silver because you want it to be silver.
Silver is silver, clad is clad, and your coin is clad.

Not believing us is your right offcourse.
But as stated before send it to PCSG and find out.

Listen everyone...stop the whole "troll" finger pointing. We don't know what the true intentions of the this poster are. State your opinion and if they don't take it, let it be. It is not your place to determine if someone is a troll or not. If you have a problem, report it to the mods. DO NOT call out a member, especially a new member, as being a troll.

I do not want to hear anymore of this talk. Stay on topic and if you don't have something productive and on topic to say keep quiet. Consider this a warning for everyone.

The opinions here are pretty much unanimous, CLAD!
That coin is NOT silver! Now prove me wrong.
Get it accurately weighed, and if necessary, have
    a specific gravity test done.
If it passes those two tests, have it graded, it'll be worth moon money.
Then come back and rub it in our faces.

I agree with Camaro in his post above. The guys pointing fingers are acting more juvenile and trollish than the poster. How anyone can state absolutely anything from any photo which may be adjusted or just plain bad. He tried the weighing, and evidently has a scale with a low resolution. I am assuming all of the "pointers" have balances into the milligrams and their own specific gravity setups or they wouldn't be making such suggestions. If you can't do it why expect others to have such or a mass spectrometer available.

Advice given to the poster is "Experts say , so shut up", but a better solution is that once you have given an opinion and can't add anymore than that, to take one's own advice and go to another thread. My last warning also.

This is another easy test you can do at home place a Kleenex over the top of it and tell us what color if any shows through

Easy way to tell is by looking at the reeding on the coin.

If the reeding is a solid grey, your coin is silver
If the reeding has grey and brown, your coin is clad

Right. The silver should tend toward ______ in color and clad would tend toward _____.
