I'm sorry, I guess I didn't fully explain myself. The Germans had a plan to counterfeit millions of pounds in British paper currency and drop them from airplanes over England. The plan was to cause massive inflation and destroy the British economy. This was referred to as Operation Bernhard. I have never heard of an allied effort to counterfeit German currency in any form.
I watched the same Mythbusters. Lon has it right folks, I tried to make it as obvious as I could. I'll go ahead & keep my day job.
The coin looks to be 100% authentic however the TR 2 & 5 Mark coins are 64% silver and are a little more interesting for most collectors from a value and display standpoint. Just my 10 pfennigs worth...
haha, well actually the 2 reichmarks coins are 62.5 % silver and the 5 marks coins are 90% silver. i have a few, a couple of them are really nice. ill have to post pics and see what you guys all think.
Hi Dylz, Interesting thread you got going here. I also have a third reich coin I will send a few pic's for comparison. My Dad was in WWII over there so I'm pretty sure it's genuine. I belive it's the equivelant of a penny. Any of the experts tha t would like to chime in, feel free. The coin itself is really black so I lightened it up some to see it (BTW) anyone know what the red spots are?
yeah yours looks like the majority of my zinc nazi coins. i thought the one i posted may be fake because of how altered it looked as well that the eagle feels almost completely flat compared to other similar coins i have in worse condition. maybe you can see what i mean in this pic. click to enlarge
yeah im disappointed, had high hopes for that coin. but anyway thanks to the kind people here at coin talk i have really learned alot and in turn my taste has changed so im on to bigger and better things.
We have all bought coins that weren't what we expected. It's how we learn. One big rule with Third Reich coins (with some exceptions)...Berlin minted coins (A) are common and nice examples can easily be found with a little searching. Check out this link to my photo album where you can see some of my Third Reich coins. All of these coins are MS (with the exception of the 1939-D 1pf which is AU...I bought it because of the die cracks). I think I paid $2 for the AU coin. http://www.cointalk.com/members/camarodmd/albums/german-third-reich-collection/
very nice collection!! and great price for that coin. i did know that berlin is the most common mint, my collection is mostly that of others mints from germany. i started with 1936 A 1pf and found all the mints for that year and have been trying to do the same for every coin featuring the swastika. i bid crazy on this one becuase i was deceived by how it said very rare year and large size coin in the description so i actually thought it was larger than the regular 10 pf. and looking like that i would have to have it. hahah.. alas it was the same size and not even the coin pictured. honestly i cant even stand to look at it. maybe if i turn it into a ring i mite be able to get my money back. i will check out the dealer you linked me with, seems like his coins will be a much nicer grade than anything ive seen on ebay. thanks again by the way.
LOL! Nooooooooooooooooooooo!i just want to forget about this coin. i seen that guy has been selling these coins for $10, $14 and $20 since then. im going to ask if he will take it back being as he didnt mention that it had been altered, or if i could trade for one of the coins he hasnt ruined yet. HAH!
I thought ebay had a policy against selling nazi related items? On another forum I'm a member of I'm sure I heard this at some point.
I believe it's said earlier in the thread, stamps and coins/currency are the only nazi items allowed.
Selling coins and military collectibles is allowed. I don't think you can sell modern Nazi propaganda and items though.
