  1. No doubt on the 40. Also a Philippine hoard date.

And yes owning adds at least one grade. But I tend to be harder on barber halves. Which is why I probably guessed one grade lower than what I received from PCGS on my last submission.

Did you guys see that the 97 S in question went for almost twelve "blinkin" hundred dollars!?

That's double the Red Book price for that coin.

Just goes to prove the adage that you should always buy quality.

yeah but that was a nice looking coin - nice and original. Those ones are fun to look at and watch.

Thanks E, coming from a professional Barber enthusiast, this means a lot. I pegged it at about 35 or 40, a few slight contact marks would prevent it going past 40. Thanks again!

I blame Mike for getting me into Barber coins, which I was previously not "super" in to. Still working on my WQD collection primarily, BUT I do have my eye on two different Barber quarters. I will post as soon as one comes into my possession. It will be my first Barber quarter, and complete my goal of having a Barber dime, quarter, half, and v-nickel.

  7. Well, I'm almost disappointed that it wasn't I who influenced you, but welcome to the Barber world nonetheless.

Edit: But Mike is a very good example to follow. :thumb:

While I have to give the initial interest in the barbers to my son - once I found this thread the cumulative affect that all of you have had is what really drove it home and had me encouraging him and myself to do it.

  9. The coolest part of that statement is how your son influenced you. That is a very cool bond, Jim.

    upgrade to my F-15.

I always knew this series was addicting. I got hooked back in 1967 -
and I have my friend from college, Carl Greive to blame.
If I was able to get some one interested in this series, great.
I'm more than pleased so many have been drawn to this series.
I'm especially pleased to hear that the younger generation is
    become involved as well.

Here are a few new photos. The 04-S is the first coin that we actually purchased but I never photographed - need to upgrade but it'll have to wait. The 11 and 11-D are newps for me - Mike you've seen them before. They both have issues as you pointed out but in the end, I couldn't resist for the price and will eventually replace them. I've never had a problem buying coins with issues for the right price but I'm done with that now. I'm going to take my time buying fewer, problem free coins.

  14. I like the new coins, Jim. That 11-D is right there at XF40. One date I have been having trouble finding. I know where there is one in VF, but either I or the owner has to find an upgrade before I can get my hands on it. :D

How'd I know one of you "Barber guys" would end up bidding on this one? ;)

    Fantastic pick-up, as always. :)

Thanks, Brian. I double checked the latest PCGS Price Guide and decided I'd bid accordingly.
I have been looking for a nicer example than the pair of VF 20's I own. I'm pretty pleased with it.
