rare wheat penny?

    this penny has both double d's and double p's mint marks was wondering if anyone has seen somthing like this before? and if so what is it and whats the value of it? thanks.

    Looks like post mint damage to me. I think that gunk on the surface is just crud someone poured on it.

    I agree with medorama... something foreign was introduced onto that coin. Maybe it was used as a fuse (we did that in the old days) which caused a little "arcing", resulting in what looks like weld spatter.

    .22's also sufficed in a pinch, but I know in one occasion that it overheated in a friends truck and went off!

    Jim, were we supposed to stop using them as fuses? Dang, I musta missed that memo.. I agree with the initial assessment, damaged coin
