Geez man, that's terrible! I really hope you are able to recover these! Those are pretty unique notes, so I'm sure they will show up somewhere down the line... hopefully someone will know that they are stolen. One "good" thing (if any of this can be considered good), is that at least they are not current issue FRN's that someone could take and spend without knowing the true value.
there are some real scumbags out there. sorry for you loss rick. hopefully they find these dirt bags and they can be prosecuted for this crime. i had recently had someone break into my vehicle right in front of my house. its a horrible feeling. luckily they only got my radar detector and an ipod. nothing like getting a knock on the door at 7 am by the security from my development telling me that someone had broken into my truck. the *******s even broke an american flag i had in my truck
Maybe it's just me, but doesn't there seem to be more of this type of crime lately?... not only effecting dealers, but collectors as well. Maybe they're just bunched together, and of course we hear most the stories right here. It certainly looks like "smash and grab" is the latest preferred "modus operandi" of these thieves, able to pull off their capers in a few seconds. I've had a lackadaisical approach to this problem in the past, but that's beginning to change. During flea market season I always leave my "inventory" boxed up in the back seat of my car, and even though there are few items of value (love selling common Ikes, three for five bucks), I'm thinking of changing my bad habits.
Yup, I've heard a bunch of stories this year, not only people getting robbed but also killed for their wares. Unfortunately it's a sign of the times with the price of PM's being high, a bunch of unemployed people, and more creditors breathing down the throats of these people. I would think some of them are even getting smart and doing a little surveillance on people working at pawn shops and coin shops to get an idea of their daily routine before they strike. It's a god awful criminal element, some can be across the street in a beat up Buick Regal and we just don't know about it. That's when I fear for my family's life...
The options for these thieves once caught should be few. Upon successful prosecution in a court of law they need to have one of their hands removed. Show them after surgery all over the TV and in newspapers with their now handless arm bandaged up. This will send a message out to the general population that there are real consequences to committing such crimes. But ohhh no, we can't do that! What these thieves do is plea down their crimes and serve 2 months in county lockup before being released. Then the cycle starts all over again.
I think it's just you. There has always been a lot of this smash and grab type of robbery going on Getting brazen? Not really, this has been going on for decades. One good thing about paper money. They have serial numbers and no matter when they finally surface they can be definitely identified and returned to their proper owner.
Dang Rickie! That really stinks to not only loose that National from your possession but to think that those chumps won't care for it and might cut it out of the holder and fold it up and all. I hope you get it back and that they are dumb enough to sell it to the store you got it from. We'll be on the lookout for it too.
Yep, that's the one. I went past his shop before but never stopped in due to his inconsistent hours. Still feel bad for the guy as he was obviously targeted.
I'm definitely sticking to the brazen comment in the case of the coin dealer. Generally I would hear of things like this happening at night, in a secluded parking lot, or away from people. This guy did it in a busy restaurant parking lot in broad daylight!
Sharia law? Really? I'm comfortable with a legal system that protects us all, even the guilty, from retribution in the heat of anger. And even if you believe in the Old Testament "eye for an eye", do you really want to equate a property crime with maiming?
Rickie, I really sorry to hear about this. I hope you are able to recover these notes. Being that they are so rare, one would think they would turn up at some point. I well keep my eyes open for them.
That's the upside to this whole ordeal, in that it's so rare and a sterling grade that it will most certainly be easy to identify.
I keep coming back to this thread hoping to see Rickie's post telling us that the notes have been returned. Every time I come back, I'm more disappointed, but I'll keep coming back.
Who said anything about Sharia law? Also, who said anything about retribution in the heat of anger? These criminals would first be prosecuted in a court of law. There would be plenty of time to "cool off" and see things in a clear light. I do not wish to get an "eye for an eye" but the entire purpose of removing the hand of these common thieves is to make an example out of them. If amputations were implemented for these thugs, street crime such as what we have been reading about on here would drop 15% a year for 6 years until such thefts were practically no longer committed. Perhaps the 8th Amendment can use some amending. The 8th Amendment was passed in 1791, this is now 2012. Times have changed. What we need is a post-constitutional President who is open to thinking outside the box. Actually, we may already have a president like this but this depends on who you talk to. Yes, Hammurabi sounds like he was an interesting fellow. If more people thought like him, crime in this country would be a thing of the past.
