Hey guys, I just got onto this forum and into this first post. :D So here is the problem, I went to a coin show yest. and got a Standing Lib, Merc, Buffalo Nik, Barber half, and a few "cheapies". While moving my new puppies home, the 2x2's in my pocket may have moved quite a bit and scratched a hole on the 2x2 film of the Buffalo; abt the width of a .9 lead. Should I remove the 2x2 and put it somewhere else? I currently don't have any air-tites or flips...*The ends of the paper clips....killing me. :mad:Thx.

Get some more 2x2 flips or some air-tite type holders then. Perhaps the coins can sit on a flat safe surface til you get them their new home. ;)

For long term storage you're best bet is a air-tite

Depends upon the value of the coin If the coin is worth less then the price of an Air tite I would put it into a 2x2

The 2x2 flips can suffice to store most coins, but you must press the staples flat to help protect adjacent coins, or only use a flat cinch stapler. Another hint is to not try to put too many flips with coins in a single box, go ahead and spring for another box.

Since we are on the topic of storage, I recommend dating coins you personally put in flips and changing them out every year or so. Then again, I may be just paranoid about such things.

Edit: To answer your original question, I would probably leave it in the damaged flip until you get another flip or airtite...at least minimize any dust or accidental handling was my thinking.

I'm thinking keep it in the flip and protect it from the environment in a safe for coins envelope or something made from #5 plastic if it will take you a while to get more tites or flips. A couple of days for shipping shouldn't be a big deal unless you have pollutants a plenty or high humidity. Even an open space in an album would be a temporary solution just don't forget where you put it.

Until you decide what to do, go to a 99 cent store and buy a box of sandwich size zip locks ( I get 60 for 99 cents) and put one coin in each. They are safe and will limit the environmental conditions. If you are carrying them to or from somerplace, put the sealed bag in a paper envelope to protect. The paper won't affect the coin in the zipped bag. When you find what you want, put them in that and then reuse the bags and envelopes for coins or a P&J&B sandwich for lunch.

    Welcome to the forum!

:foot-mouth: Thanks for the comments guys. I was planning using the zip-lock bags too for temp. storage, but I was wondering if it contains a high amount of PVC in them....then I would use an envelope at the moment..

If it's safe for food storage, it's safe for coins.
